A rolling stone

Now rounded and weathered

Will gather no moss

Frost-wedged, and untethered

And by my bones

And from these hills

You rolled away; you can’t stand still

Why won’t you cease?

And to what end?

As oceans thunder

By sundered-peaks, and mountain bends

Where to the seas

And to the sand

Return again all shrines to man

- Silly sentiments -

- Bedded below silicate sediments -

Here I’ve buried you down deep

Folded in the sands of time

In this churning, burning

Mind of mine

Pressed your carbon into peat

“I’m coal” you swear,

“Coal wrapped in ribbon”

Withdrawn from air

Compact and hidden

Here in the dark, mined by none

You see coal

Where I’ve seen diamonds
