She didn't expect all of her friends from her former school would conspire with each other to make a grand celebration of her eighteenth birthday. Her best buddies gathered everyone they know who'd been a special part of her life, especially the teachers whom she had grown fond with and had called them her own second parents and family.

~~oo~~

Hanie Francois, a second year college student, is a laidback person who never took her studies ever since she grew tired of studying for the sake of her parents' praises and such. She looks like an average student to anyone who doesn't know her well, and a varsity for their school's table tennis team. She made it through the try outs during her second term when she was still first year and her parents consented on going to an apartment with her boyfriend whom they know only as her bestfriend, for his father seemed to have this cunning trait to convince anyone. And now, she'd been running as a first honor Dean's Lister for three terms straight, with no repetition of any subjects, unlike a few of her blockmates.

It was during their summer vacation before the first term of their second year start. Hanie recieved an invitation to go out on a swimming outing with her ex's friends, and her friends were invited too, even her bestfriend was invited. She had no choice but to oblige.

~~oo~~

"Where are the others?" Hanie asked. "I thought we're suppose to be complete during dinner?"
"Just wait." Her cousin, Roxanne, said. "They'd be here soon."
"Well I can't wait because dinner's getting cold." Hanie said with a cute pout.
"They'll be here, don't worry." Roxanne reassured her.
"And when will that be?"
"I have no idea."
"Then how could you be so sure that they'd be here for dinner? Do you think they're still in their rooms?"
"Do not ask me."
"But I'm already asking you."
"That's why I said do not ask me because I don't know where they are or what they're doing."
"But why don't you know the answer? You know them, don't you?"
"I don't."
"Right..."
"Yeah...don't ask me!" Roxanne almost screamed at Hanie when she opened her mouth again.
"What...? I haven't started asking yet." she replied. "Do you have any contact with Jude? I can't contact him all day long."
"Neither do I." Roxanne said innocently, avoiding her cousin's eyes. "Maybe something came up and he has no choice but not to come to this outing..."
"Then, he would've told me if something happened."
"Oh don't get too worried about your guy. He's big enough to take care of himself."
"Actually, he do need supervision...he can't manage a household well as I thought he would."
"What do you expect from guys?" Roxanne shrugged. Hanie sighed.
"I do hope he'd thought of calling me..."
"Oh stop being sorry...he'd be calling you soon, and explaining himself."
"I do hope you're right."
The two of them waited in the large  dining room for a little longer, until Hanie bursted out, "It'll take them two light years to come! Let's get ahead and eat so that we could rest --oh, fuck." she cursed. "Of all time, why the black out! Bring back the lights, dammit! I can't eat in the dark."
As soon as she had said it, candles were lightened around them. Hanie blinked, not noticing that Roxanne had left her side.
"Now what?" she muttered, getting annoyed.
She started to hear music, the very one she liked for her wedding day. She can't help the smile that had formed on her lips as she turned to look behind her, cursing. She saw her friends coming in, with a rose per person, and giving it to her, saying their birthday wishes for her. For the seventeenth rose, however, she blinked. It was her ex, Lorenz Rombeau. He gave the rose to her and they were forced to dance by the people around them, especially their teachers who were holding the candles. They even heard someone shouted, "Just for a moment, relive those happy days together!" Hanie only grimaced at that. After that, no one came into the hall. She turned to them, "I'm not seventeen, you've miscalculated my age..."
"Come over here." her friend J.M., whom she calls father, said to her. She went over him, and a blindfold immediately descended onto her eyes.
"What the fuck...?" she started but they all hushed her. She was led into somewhere and she started when an arm went around her waist. But she knew those arms well, having them around her for almost everyday of her life. It was her bestfriend, Jude Lefevre. She couldn't help but smile widely, and she could feel tears forming up in her eyes. She laid her head on his shoulder.
"I thought you'd never come." she said.
"Why shouldn't I?" he said. "For your information, I'm the one who bothered all these people so that I can do this for you."
"This sudden birthday bash? My birthday is still a month away you know."
"I know," he whispered. "But some kids had been nagging me ever since last year."
"Who?"
"Pen and AL."
"Oh..." Pen and AL were the names of they were planning to give to their children when they got married. But for this occasion, he's talking about the imaginary Pen and AL. Hanie noticed that his arms tightened around her waist and in return, she tightened her arms around his neck.
"Will you marry me?" he whispered to her ear. Hanie was grateful that she didn't took the blindfold off, for she doesn't want him to see the tears that had formed in her eyes, but her smile said which she want to hide in her eyes.
"The pre-proposal, eh?" she murmured. She nuzzled his neck, then bit it. He yelped at that, slapping her lower back.
"Don't do that." he hissed.
"Then don't ask me the obvious."
"You should be grateful that I even bothered for this pre-proposal. Or do you want me to propose to another girl?"
"Do that, and you'll never see another dawn without getting all beaten up by me."
"Then just give me a straight answer."
"Let me think through it..."
Jude let go of her immediately, annoyed, but Hanie pulled him back, taking off the blindfold and looking straight at his eyes.
"I was just joking about that..." she said.
"Well, I'm serious here."
"Do  you really want me to answer it?"
"Yes."
Hanie crushed her lips onto his, and J.M. shooed everyone out, leaving the two of them alone. When Hanie let go, Jude blinked.
"I'll take that as a yes." he said.
"You're mistaken." she said playfully. Jude only rolled his eyes.
"Fine. Be like that. After all the trouble I've went to make this for you..."
Hanie only smiled wider. Oh, how she loved annoying him. She just kissed the little boy who seems to be pouting for all the things he did was nothing.
"Of course I'd love to marry you..." she murmured through their glued lips.
