You are Beautiful

"I live in a world where society only cares for popularity and pretty faces"

They tell you back straight, chin up beautiful, no one has the power to break you. They say sticks and stones may break your bones, but words can never hurt you. It is often that the words hold more power over us, words are harmful and people use them as weapons – throwing them at a girl who can’t fight back. This girl knows what it’s like to be hurt by someone, to be kicked to the ground and to be told she isn’t enough, isn’t good enough. You can see on her face, she pulls at the smile and it nearly slips, giving us a glimpse of the fear and sadness that hides under her pretty face. This girl is too kind, she cannot give back what these people have thrown at her because she knows, knows what it’s like and knows that no person should have to go through it – not even the worst people.

They tell you to be yourself and that we are all individuals but society groups us none the less. There’s another girl, her classmates look and treat her like a freak.  They yell rude and nasty words at her and they throw disgusted sideway glances at her when she’s not looking. What they don’t know is what she has been through, her home life is far worse than her classmates. But they categorize her as a freak anyways, not stopping to get to know her before they lay judgement. People these days judge before they get to know a person, and why is that? Because they are too self-absorbed to put actual effort into getting to know someone.

They tell you that you’re beautiful, no matter what you look like. But there’s a girl who never talks, never speaks her mind – just a quiet nuisance in the background of everything. But what no one knows is that she stares into the mirror all morning wishing she was prettier, skinner and taller – more like everyone else. Her arms are covered in scars, red and fresh, she doesn’t care – why not make what is already ugly, even more. Her classmates snicker words like fat and ugly at her but what they don’t know is that she suffers depression, she has no friends and no support. They wouldn’t know of her beautiful personality, that she has done things for them that they don’t even know about – that they wouldn’t even care if they knew.

Then there’s me. A girl, who is rather quiet and would rather keep to herself then share things with society that doesn’t need to be shared. A girl who has, yes been through her own time of suffering but knows that her time was nothing like what others around her have been through.  A girl, who notices suffering, who fights to fix all peoples problems and who puts others before herself.  A girl who is content just by seeing a smile on her friends face. A girl who has been bullied, who has not wanted to go to school and who has wanted to shut the world out.

But I’ll tell you something, these things have made me stronger. I was weak, I let people push me around and bully me. Now I realise that you can never let people get the better of you. If they are trying to bring you down then that says something about them, not you.

Society is horrible. Teenagers take the weight of society and aspire to become exactly what society is pushing them to be. I can tell you one thing, being unpopular and an individual is not so bad. I still have friends but I am who I am, I do not aspire to become like everyone else.
So chin up beautiful, society is so wrong. Be who you want to be, you are beautiful no matter what.

Stay strong, keep fighting Capture_zpsaaceae31.png
