The Piano and the Violin
They say when an angel sings, their song would sound like a soft violin
That this violin can call out to the ones left behind in their past lives
Yes, I believe they sing for their beloved
The ones that survived.
Gently played piano keys sound from a dimly lit house on 64th Street
As a little girl with brown curls plays
Smiling as if the world were but a dream around her
The reality bitter but her fantasy oh so sweet
But what of this dream?
The melody reminded her of the one person whom she’d loved for her hope and charm
In fact she was taught how to play by this person
The one person, who would wrap her up in strong but mild arms
From the day this girl was born, she loved the sight, smell and touch of her mother
This little girl looked up to her
This parent loved even the breath of her daughter
Oh, how they loved one another
But one day, the most tragic of all tragedies came upon this loving couple
Cancer plagued the heart of the mother and she had to be taken care of
The daughter oblivious to what happened to the arms, she’d thought so subtle
And slowly the mother drifted, the one person the child loved
Her father now working two jobs a day
The little girl was left alone to grow up on her own
Holding her hand and picking herself up
Until she was fully grown
The now grown up girl sits at that same piano with her daughter on her knee
Teaching her, that same old tune to her own kin
The memories of her mother softly sounding off with each played key
Then suddenly she hears along with her piano
