Scene Six

-Later that evening, Aurora is at home. She’s nervous about telling her mom about the rape, but feels that it’s important she knows. It’s the right thing to do, even if it’s her hardest.-

Aurora: knocks on her mother’s room door. Mom, can I come in?
Diana: Yes.
Aurora: takes a deep breath and enters. Mom, I know that for the past several weeks, things been upsetting for all of us. But I think it’s important that I share this with you. Wipes her eyes.
Diana: Oh, baby. Have you been crying? Come sit next to me. Pats the space next to her.
Aurora: politely rejecting her. I think I’d rather stand. Softly. And yes, I’ve been crying.
Diana: with sympathy. What’s wrong?
Aurora: tears up. Please don’t be mad at me. Everything I’m about to tell you is the truth, okay?
Diana: brings her over to comfort her. Sweetheart, tell me what’s the matter. Did you and Joe get in another argument? Did you disrespect him again?
Aurora: baffled in disbelief. Mom! This is about me. Not Joe!
Diana: Stop being selfish!
Aurora: gets off the bed. Then start listening mom! He raped me! Me mom; your daughter!
Diana: eyes widen with tears in disbelief. No. no, no, no, no, no. You liar! When will you stop?!
Aurora: Why can’t you believe me? I’m your fucking daughter and he raped me!
Diana: Joe was right. All you do is bullshit with us. You just want to tear us apart!
Aurora: Why would I want to destroy your happiness? I hardly speak to you on a daily bases. You told me that I should be more open with you mom. And now that I am, you don’t want to listen.
Diana: I’m not going to listen to the lies coming from your filthy mouth. Angrily.
Aurora: But you’d listen to a man like Joe. Who brainwashes you to tear us apart mom!
Diana: Joe loves me. He’d never try to ruin us even if he had the chance.
Aurora: You’re so full of it! Why can’t you love me the way dad did? Aren’t I worth loving?
Diana: turns away. He spoiled you. You were the apple off his eye. Before you were born he was all mines; then we had you. He fell in love with you the minute the delivery doctor handed you to him. He even gave you your name. shakes her head. Most of our fights were never always because of coming home late or late payments but because of me not feeling loved by the man I adored. Yeah, we had our moments. But so what? We were married. The day I found out he died broke my heart. I used to think that since he’s gone, I wouldn’t be loved the way I wanted to. Not even an ounce. Then again I was relieved. I brushed off my dusty burdens I used to carry on my shoulders and came to an understanding that I am loveable. And there are people, men out there who want to be loved right back. And that’s when I met Joe. The kindest and most handsome man I’ve ever loved. Your father was my tester-cake. If the recipe isn’t correct you throw the cake away and make a new one. Indeed I loved him, at first. But I was young and wanted to live my life as a fantasized-fairy tale. And when I didn’t get it, I grew slowly apart from what I though wasn’t living up to my hopes.
Aurora: sobs. Daddy did love you! But love in your terms mean buy me this and buy me that. Love doesn’t have a price, you ungrateful bitch!
Diana: back hands her in the face. Don’t you ever. . . EVER, judge me like that again!
Aurora: on the floor. I hate you! I hate you! Runs out of the room to hers and slams her door.
Diana: breaks down to her knees and weeps.

The next day at school during lunch. . .

Aurora is alone, crying in the girls’ bathroom before the sink.

Aurora: Just one cut. . . takes the small, sharp, metal blade out of her pocket and nervously holds it against her wrist. She then hears someone approaching the girls’ bathroom. Startled, she stops short in fear of someone seeing what she’s trying to do. She listens out and waits but no one enter. Aurora takes a deep breath and continues. . . Okay. Slides the cold, unforgivable blade across her wrist and watches her blood appear and flow slowly into the sink. She cries even harder. I can’t stop, the pain is still here. Just before she makes her second cut, someone enters.
Aiden: gasp. Aurora,I’ve been looking for you everywhere. What are you doing?! Runs over to her.
Aurora: Go away Aiden, this is none of your business.
Aiden: You said that you’d promise to stop hurting yourself. What’s happened to you?
Aurora: Why are you still here? Leave me alone, leave me alone!
Aiden: Let me help you. Grabs her arm that isn’t cut.
Aurora: Don’t touch me! I’m fine. Go away! Taking her arm from him.
Aiden: You’re cutting, you’re not fine! Let me help you.
Aurora: looks into the mirror above the sink, and then at the cut arm. I am a cutter. . . Breaks down and falls to her knees. What’s wrong with me? I’m so stupid.
Aiden: gets some paper towels and wets them with cold water. Aurora you’re not stupid. Kneels down next to her and places the paper towel on her wrist. Aurora remains silent. Aurora please stop this. I know you’re in a terrible situation, but please, please don’t cut anymore.
Aurora: whips her tears. But I don’t know what else to do. Cutting is such a release for me. I can’t stop! Looks at the blade in her hand and throws it on the other side of the bathroom. It’s like I can just drain out all of my pain, worries, whatever, with one small blade. And I watch it all go away. . .
Aiden: Aurora, there are other ways to deal with pain, positive ones at that. Just don’t cut. Why would you want to injure yourself when you’re already hurting?
Aurora: sniffles. Okay, I won’t cut anymore. Looks down at Aiden’s hand holding down the paper towels on her wrist. I promise.
Aiden: You’re a strong person. Holds her. I know you are. And I’ll always be here for you too.
Aurora: How did you know I’d be in here?
Aiden: shrugs his shoulders. Lucky guess, I guess. Smiles at her.

That night. . .

Aurora is on the cell phone talking to Aiden.
Aiden: She really said that?
Aurora: Yes. Aiden, she doesn’t care.
Aiden: But I believe you 100%.
Aurora: Yes, I know. I just wish she’d understand me.
Aiden: So do I. You don’t deserve to go through this.
Aurora: sniffles. I know. Hears someone approaching her bedroom door. I have to go now. I love you, goodnight. Quickly ends the call and puts her phone under her pillow. The person enters her room. And without a second guess she already knows who it is.
Joe: Jumps unto her bed and pins her down. Didn’t I tell to shut your fucking mouth? Punches her in the face. Huh?! Answer me!
Aurora: cries. Get off of me!
Joe: I guess you’ll never learn. Begins to strip her and himself and spreads her legs as she struggles. You just can’t stop asking for it.
Aurora: No, stop! Please, please! Pleads as if begging for mercy.
Joe: Enters her roughly with no forgiveness of her sins towards him. This is what happens when you don’t listen! Moans in pleasure. You’re even better than your mother.
Aurora: screams as loud as she could hope her mother would hear.
Diana: rushes into the room in a fright and screams. Aurora!!! Tries to fight Joe off of her.
Joe: pushes her off. You should’ve listened to her when she told you, you stupid bitch. Fucking up your daughter was much easier than I expected.
Diana: almost hitting her head gets back up and fights him again, this time he falls to the ground. Joe springs back at her and starts choking her.
Aurora: weakly finds her strength and gets up. She goes into the corner of her room and pulls out a bat. She quietly walks over to the monster trying to kill her mother and hits him as hard as she could. He collapses on top of Diana unconscious. Mom! She drops the bat and helps her mother up from under Joe.
Diana: immediately hugs her. I’m so sorry Aurora! I’m so sorry! I should’ve believed you from the beginning. I’m sorry. Tears fill her eyes.
Aurora: Mom, its okay. Cries. He can’t hurt us anymore.
Diana: Yes dear. But I understand. I’m sorry sweetie. I love you.
Aurora: never thought she’d here the words. I love you too mom.
Diana calls the police and reports what happened. Aiden immediately rushes over to the house once he sees the cops arrive. Joe is awakened and placed into the cop car. A cop speaks with them on the incident. Turns out Joe had some secrets of his own. Years ago when Michael died in a car accident wasn’t because of DUI (drinking under the influence) and speeding. Joe was driving the car that had crashed into Michaels. He was drunk. The news was shocking for all of them. He’d also raped and murdered many other women. He always made his victims believe he was a doctor of some sort therefore, they’d calm down as he attacked. He’s been wanted by the law for almost 12 years and is now put to justice. The court order sentenced him life in prison with no bail. Everyone was relieved from all the falsehoods were no more. As time goes on from the horrendous events that took place, loved is restored. Aurora has never cut again since Aiden found out the second time. Her scars disappear more and more everyday. Not just the scars on her arms, but the deeper scars of her distressed emotion. The scars that had harden her heart had now gone away. The deeper scars that were marked on her family as a result of their forever unhappiness have left as well. Love, trust, and understanding can now abundantly abide. The curtain falls and the playing a violin surrounds until the lights dim.

The End.
