I carry his name

Do I carry his shame?

What about his love,

lies, excuses, and contribution

Am I more like him and not even know it

Why is it I’m questioning my actions,

my judgment, my way of life over someone whose name

I carry, but doesn’t carry his love?

Instead I wait for the day his shame will leave

and forever let love in

How can his contribution to me, his daughter

be not love but a legacy of lies, excuses, and shame?

His daughter

Don’t you think I his daughter deserve more than mere shame

Is it or would it be fair to say I his daughter is ashamed of him

My father

Or am I his daughter being cruel and misunderstanding

Maybe...

But ask me if I care
