Auston Matthews helped the Toronto Maple Leafs defeat the Detroit Red Wings 3-2 last night, scoring the winning goal at 19:29 of the third period.

There was no scoring in the first period, but Toronto out shot the Wings 15-12.

Toronto went down 1-0 when Anthony Mantha scored at 5:51 of the second period.

James Van Riemsdyk tied the game at 7:02.

Just 18 seconds later, Mitch Marner put the Leafs ahead 2-1.

At 9:17, Henrik Zetterberg tied the game 2-2.

It seemed as if the game was going to go into overtime.

Just 31 seconds to go in regulation, though, Matthews scored and the Leafs ended their short road trip with a win.

Toronto out shot Detroit 34-29.

Detroit's goalie, Petr Mrazek, stopped 34 shots.

Mrazek's teammate, Gustav Nyquist had two assists last night.

Toronto heads home to host the Florida Panthers tomorrow night.
