Deep Waters

 Struggling, running out of breath.

I am held down in an ocean

 0f morbid thoughts and actions

Engulfed, helpless

Slowly, painfully drowning

Kicking, thrusting upwards, swimming with the last dredges of my strength

Only the thoughts of the surface

Console me in despair

As I rise, against swift currents,

Searching for air

Brightness, almost there. Desperately reaching out, forward…

The surface, dry tranquil land

Is what I seek. It is like a consoling haven.

Eager to rest upon the golden sand,

Whilst from the sharks and beasts I hide.

Breaking surface. Instantly filling my lungs. Alive.

I thrash about, until I reach the top.

I can stay here forever, in serene safety.

Far away from my troubles and nightmares,

I am safe.

I rise, and am in the safe embrace of my friends, those who love me, and those I love back.
