I saw a girl- she wore a mask-
I didn't know her name,
so I approached, and tried to ask
she answered, "You don't know? A shame.
Nor I," said she with cautious eyes
It almost broke my heart
She feared I would see through her subtle lies
and tear her tattered soul apart.
So who she is remains unknown-
she hides beneath her dreadful cloak
It chills me to the very bone.
What was likely someone's harmless joke
makes me dread what I'll see when
I look into that mirror again.
