Would you believe that I loved you

If I swore it was true

Would you believe that I knew you

In a world that was new

Would you believe that I held you

Close to my heart

In a world of make-believe

We were one  you and I

Before it all went awry

Before dishes and laundry

and duties and late shifts

We were one you and I

In a world of make-believe

Now the stars are all quiet

Where they once used to sing

Now the moon has gone shy

It once used to dance right across the sky

So many secrets only lovers know

So many places only lovers go

Come my love and walk with me

We can be friends and companions

Travellers in the wind

We can be memories

We can be walkers

In a world of make-believe

If the sky never darkened

I would never have seen you

But if the sun never shone

I would not have my sight

And so I dream of a world

of eternal twilight

Where evenings never end

Where  you and I still sit together

With the world at our feet

In a dream of make-believe
