Spiral Mountain used to be a great place to live. Banjo the bear and his partner Kazooie the bird enjoyed their life with their friends Tooty (Banjo’s sister) and Bottles (Banjo and Kazooie’s intelligent friend the mole).”

One day, the evil witch Gruntilda (Grunty) kidnapped Tooty from their home in Spiral Mountain. Banjo and Kazooie had to bring Tooty back and the only way to do that was to find Gruntilda. Banjo and Kazooie’s first stop was Mumbo’s Mountain. Here they found jigsaw puzzle pieces dubbed “jiggies” and learned that only if they found enough jiggies could they make their way to Grunty’s lair. Along the way Bottles helped Banjo and Kazooie by teaching them new moves to further their expedition towards Tooty.

Their journey led them through the sandy beaches of treasure trove cove where Kazooie learned how to fly. Now Banjo and Kazooie could get to out of reach areas and could grab every last jiggy. After treasure trove cove Banjo and Kazooie headed through machine infested waters, piranha infested swamps, evil snowmen infested winter wonderlands, mummy infested deserts, and monster infested mansions, until eventually they found enough jiggies to make their way to Grunty’s lair.

When Banjo and Kazooie got there, they had to play an evil board game to advance to Tooty. The board game required the knowledge gained from their experiences and only the correct answers allowed Banjo and Kazooie to proceed to Grunty herself. Eventually Banjo and Kazooie reached Grunty and defeated her in a long difficult battle. After her defeat Banjo and Kazooie took Tooty back to Spiral Mountain where they lived in peace for the rest of their lives.

Unfortunately Grunty would return two years later with a vengeance in the second installment, Banjo-Tooie.
