Under The Mistletoe

Samantha and her family sat in the warmth of the house, opening presents and singing along to carols. Everyone was cheerful and content. The door bell rang and Samantha went to the door and opened it, revealing a red nosed but smiling Guy. He was wrapped up tight in a thick coat, gloves, hat, scarf and wellies.

"You have a moment?" He says, his breath puffing out of his mouth like smoke.

"Yeah sure, just hang on a second," Samantha's stomach knotted as she hurried back into the living room and told her parents she'll be back in a minute. She then quickly shoved her coat, scarf, gloves and wellies on. "Ready," she breathed, shutting the door and walking outside with Guy.

They walked in silence through the thick, cold snow. Guy was her best friend but she felt something for him she didn't feel in any other of her guy friends. Butterflies flew around her stomach as they walked. She didn't know where they were walking but she followed Guy, happy just to be with him. After a while though the silence was killing her to she turned to Guy and asked,

"Where are we going?"

"You'll see." He said simply and Samantha wondered where he was taking her.

They reached a cafe closed for Christmas and Samantha recgonised it as his Mum's cafe. She looked at him quizzically as he pulled out a key and unlocked the door. He turned on the cafe lights and there was a table for two in the middle of the room, a white sheet over it with a bowl of soup and a present next to one of the bowls.

"Guy...?" Samantha began but he began to lead her to the chair in front of the bowl and present and she sat down and he sat down opposite her. Guy finally spoke.

"My Mum let me use the cafe for a while, I thought you'd like some nice warm soup for the cold outside and I've got you a present." Samantha's heart could have exploded for beating so fast.

"But I haven't got you a present-!" She managed to say.

"Try the soup, my Mum made it."

"Let's eat first." He said and Samantha obeyed, wondering frantically what to do. She can't believe he did this for her, it was perfect. Tasting the soup, she instantly felt warm. It tasted delicious too. They ate in silence, Samantha trying to find what to say. Did he like her? He had never did this to any of Samantha girl mates. Her heart was beating fast and her stomach full of butterflies.

They finished the soup and Samantha began to thank him when he said to open the present. She began to open the thin, rectangular box then gave a little gasp of suprise. It was a beautiful silver necklace with a crystal heart

"Oh, Guy, this is beautiful..." She whispered. Guilt began to wash over her. She had bought him a box of chocolates on the last day of term but she had bought everyone that and the necklace was so beautiful and looked expensive.

"Now, let's dicuss my present."

"Oh Guy I'm so sorry if I knew you'd do this-" Samantha began but he held up a hand and she stopped. He then stood up and walked over to her, taking her hand, smiling. She stood up too and he took a hold of the necklace and put it around her neck for her, brushing his hands through her hair.

Her pulse began to quicken and he took a hold of her hand.

"You look beautiful..." Guy whispered then leaned closer to her. Her heart was thumping frantically as he pressed his lips softly to hers.

It was Christmas, she was with her family and she was kissing Guy. Everything was perfect.
