Lots of symbolism here. Very personal poem. See if you can interpret my meaning ;)

Tonight I sit alone

In the winter-burned sunflower patch,

Full moon tears sliding down my cheeks.

I forget the day past and dream of tomorrow,

When perhaps I’ll no longer weep.

Remember the days lived in full sight of the sun?

Laughing with you, there was no need to cry.

The joy I found in our love was boundless;

It was innocent.

We exchanged sweet kisses in the golden springtime glory

Of our sunflower patch.

Remember the night of endless waiting?

Creeping alone, out of sight of the sun, to the sunflower patch,

Where you were expecting me.

Balmy summer air caressed our exposed skin.

I dreamt of walking down the long path with you,

New moon tears blurring my eyes.

But you dreamed only of the night.

In the dark before dawn you left me, still dreaming.

When I awoke it was again night-time,

and the sunflowers had all turned their faces from me.

My eyes could not see the light, though it surrounded me.

Ashamed, I crept deeper into my safe sunflower patch,

Shedding an endless flow of waxing moon tears.

I hid myself from Father Sun;

Never would he look upon me again.

My darkened eyes could not bear the brilliance of a life lived in full daylight.

Solitude was solace, and I was exiled to my drooping sunflower patch,

Suffering through an ever-colder autumn.

Now I sit alone, my full moon tears watering the earth

In the frozen wasteland of our sunflower patch.

Perhaps spring will bloom…

Or perhaps I’ll be weeping forever.
