I am a soldier; I do what I am told
I fight for my country and for my beliefs
You will fight for your freedom which I will take away
Your beliefs are wrong; your country is evil
I spew out the words that I've been told to think

I am a soldier; I am just a young man
I want to feel important; like I have a say
I want to be there for my country, but I am too young to vote
I think there is honour in going to war

I am a soldier; someday I will go to college
If I join the army, I can earn money for school
I am making more money than I would from a minimum-wage part time job
When this war is over, I will go to college if I come out alive

I am a soldier; I did what I was told
Whether I am part of my nation's army, or just a member of a street gang
I fought for my country and I fought for my turf
My leader say that it's okay if I die; it'll be for a good cause

He was a soldier and now he is dead
I am the woman who loved him and I am having his child
My heart has disintegrated as not only have I lost my only lover
I know that I will lose my child too; he will follow in his father's footsteps

He will be a soldier...
