If we went somewhere where there was music playing

I would ask you to dance with me.

I would hold you close

And pretend that we were lovers

And hope that all onlookers thought the same.

I would imagine that you felt the same as I did

And tell myself that this was the first dance of many.

How desperately I wish that was the case.

How deeply I desire that.

Sadly, it will never be.

But I still hope that one day we will dance together.

Whenever and wherever it may be.

Because then I could look down at you

Standing in my arms

And take in all that beauty

And keep it in my heart.

Because if I could live that moment

Even if it was all pretend

Then I’d have that forever

To replay again and again.
