Awake In A Dream

He woke with a start to a farmiliar sound. He wasn't sure if he was still dreaming; He had a hard time distiguishing his dreams and momories from reality these days. None the less he would take advantage of the sweet, farmiliar sound comming from downstairs.

It's been a while since he heard her play...such unremarkable talent flowing from her fingertips.

"Martha?" He called out to her cautiously, affraid that she might not reply.

"Yes dear, in here." She called back, and Jeffrey imediately recognised the smile in her voice. Such a beautiful smile she had...the one that made him fall in love with her.

"Is that a new one?" He asked, ,making his way over to wrap his strong arms around her petit waist. It felt good to hold her, and yet, he knew something was terribly wrong with this picture. But he pushed the thought away in haste, enjoying these moments with her that he knew couldn't last long.

"Yes it is," She answered, "Do you like it?" She asked, turning her face away from the piano to him.

"It's brilliant." He whispered before kissing her lightly on the cheek. SHe wrapped her arms around his neck, implying that she wanted more. Her soft lips against his felt like heaven. But it was her compassionate nature that he loved most about her. And he let her take charge, not asking questions, only enjoying her presence; holding her close, releasing his passion withhers.

They've spent so many days like this one during the years--the good years...before everything had changed. But she was everything to him. She was his security, his haven, his happpiness, heart and soul...she was everything. She was his life. And life without her was no life at all.

"I love you." He said to her, meaning it with every inch of all that he is.

"I..." She began and then the scene switched. They were in a kitchen, fighting again. Over what? He couldn't remember. He usually lost touch of the original topic after the first few hurtful words.

"There's no use anymore Jeffrey, I'm done here." She said while grabbing her suitcase. He had heard those words before, in a recuring nightmare.

Not again!

This wasn't suposed to happen again!

Sudden memories flashed back in his mind...They were in bed, no, in a field, they are laughing. No, it's changed again. They are at the entrance, she's crying and he's hurting. So many times he has re-lived this moment. So many times he's tried to forget. But memories of her didn't come without this moment.

He watches her as she walks out the door.

No! Not again! Not AGAIN!

The scene changes once more. He's back now. In a white room, strapped down to a table. Two men stand there watching and observing him.

"It's happening again...He's remembering." One says.

The other steps up with a needle. "This won't hurt a bit." He says.

And then...

nothing.
