She went back again, this time with

a drink, but still the pills, always the

pills. She rose from their laughter

and withdrew, suicides love their

solitude.

There’s something in the silence

that intoxicates, the suicide knows

how to turn that silence, to manipulate

it, to swallow and possess it.

I walk in that silence and I think of her.

I want to know just what her affliction is—

what is mine? I don’t know. She rose once

from a grave of her own fashion, they fixed

her, but suicide is an old addiction.
