Just beyond the glow of my crystalline scepter, the wolves circled closer now, snarling and gnashing their teeth. Their glowing eyes peered at me from the abyss, glowing and greedy, blinded by hunger. Fueled by starvation they pushed ever closer, never daring to come into view, and rightly so.
Nevertheless, these cries of hunger bore no real concern to me. On the whistling wind I could hear the growling of the horde of ogres which had driven me into these haunted woods. Far enough away to give me hope of escaping, but still close enough that I could hear the crashing of their weapons against limb and growth. Their clumbsy stampede through the silent woods exciting and startling the denizens of this dark world.
The wolves that had been following greedily behind me from the shadows had now fallen back, apparently drawn by the crashing of the horde behind me. Lightning crashed around me as I heard the pack fall upon the ogres. Nipping and howling, the wolves foolishly fell upon my pursuers. The growls of the wolves were drowned out by the roars of the ogres as they smashed into the predators. Yelps of pain filled the woods behind me mixed with the sound of clubs and axes smashing against flesh and bone. I knew this wouldn't end well for the canines. Ogres are known for their ruthlessness and skill in battle. A battle cry rang out and I knew the ogres had triumphed, an all too short lived battle.
