Blake got up from his lazy boy recliner. He sighed as he walked over to the freezer, he opened it and peered in. "What shall I have today Man?" He asked his bulldog. "Hungry Man fried chicken or Hungry Man meat loaf?" Man looked at his master, barked, then went to his over sized bed and threw himself down. "I'm sick of them too,"Blake said, slamming the freezer door to.

Suddenly he smelt something out of this world! Knowing the whole time it was stupid, but he found himself turning and looking at his stove halfway expecting to see something cooking. A cool breeze came into the kitchen window causing the scent to come again.Blake leaned over the sink and pressed his nose to the screen. "I wonder what's being cooked in that kitchen?" He asked Man who was now at the door barking to go outside. "Man you picked a fine time to want out,"Blake chuckled as he hooked the leash to Man's collar. "You smell it too, don't you boy?"

Blake stepped out onto his porch. He took in a big huge sniff. Man began wagging his tail and jumping around.Blake gazed at the house next door. A man and woman was getting out of their car and heading to the front door. Must be having a dinner party Blake thought to himself. Man drug Blake down the steps and down the side walk until they stood directly in front of the house next to his. Man began jumping and yelping and jerking until he freed himself from his leash.

The front door opened and Blake's jaw hit the ground. She was gorgeous! She had long curly black hair, her skin looked as if it was made from silk. She had a smile that was so alluring, it looked as if it was calling him beckoning him to come. Man's bark bought him back to reality.

"Man!"Blake yelled. "Don't do it!" Too late. His four legged companion ran past the two guest, and then ran between the gorgeous ladies legs into her house.Blake stopped dead in his tracks. "I'm so sorry," he said with a sheepish smile on his face. "He has never done anything like this before."

The three of them just stood there staring atBlake like he had lost his mine. Then they heard a loud crash come from inside the house. "Oh dear," the lady said.

"May I?"Blake asked. The lady stood to one side to let him enter. They followed behind him as if they was afraid that Man was going to jump on them. When they entered the kitchen there was Man chowing down on roasted chicken.Blake's mouth flew open but no words came out. Man looked up, then growled, letting them know he didn't want to share his feast.Blake finally regained his composure. "Uh, I am so so sorry," He said, pulling out his wallet. "How much do I owe you?" He asked, his jaw muscles tightened as he spoke. His face felt flushed and his skin felt wet with perspiration.

"No," she said in a whisper. "I always cook two, so you just forget about it." She bent down to stroke Man on the head.Blake could tell she was being very cautious as she put forth her hand. "You was hungry wasn't you?" Man barked and wagged his tail as he ate the last of his stolen lunch. "By the way, I'm Kellie Nelson," she said as she held out her hand for him to shake. " This is my best friend Misty Harper and her husband Matthew Harper.

Blake took her small hand into his. He felt like he had electricity running through his veins. "Nice to meet you,"He said as his stomach let out a loud growl.Blake's face heated up again. He cleared his throat hoping no one heard his stomach. "I'm Blake Moore," he added. "I just moved here and I'm a bachelor as in never ever been married," he blurred out.Blake bent down and put Man's leash back on. He stood up and met her face to face. "Well again I'm sorry."

Kellie walked over to the oven to check on the other large chicken she had roasting.Blake sniffed the air as he caught sight of what looked like a potato cassrole. His stomach let out another growl. Kellie let out a small giggle. "Let me show you out," she said.

"Invite him to stay," Misty said into her ear. "Can't you hear the poor man's stomach growling?"

Kellie gave her friend a warning look. "Good-bye," Kellie said, leading Blake to the front door. She suddenly felt ashamed of the way she was acting, but she pushed the feeling aside. Sure he was good looking. He had brownish hair that was cut short. His skin was a nice golden bronze color. She really loved how he flushed when he was embarassed. "Nice to have met you," Kellie said as they reached the front door. "Misty take the cream cheese cake out of the oven!"

Blake's mouth watered at the sound of cream cheese cake. He was sure he felt drool running down his chin. He wiped at his mouth, then coughed really loud to drown out the growl that his stomach was about to make. "Nice to have met you too." Then he turned and slowly walked back to his empty house.

"Why in the world didn't you ask him to join us?" Misty asked.

"I'm not ready for a relationship." Kellie watched until Blake went into his own house.

Misty laughed. "You know you like what you saw," she said, laughing again.

"I don't know no such thing," Kellie whimpered.

"Is that why you kept your eyes on his cute firm butt?" Misty asked.

Kellie blushed. "I don't know what your talking about," she stated.

"Hey," Matthew said. "When do we eat? My stomach is about to start growling like poor Blake's," he laughed. "He seemed like a nice guy. Why didn't you invite him to stay?" He asked.

Kellie rolled her eyes. "Not you too," she said, pointing a finger in his face.

Matthew looked stunned. "What!" He exclaimed. "I'm just saying it would be nice to have had a guy to talk to. I get tried of listening to girl talk all the time.

"You two never give up. I've told you time and time again I'm not ready to start dating" Kellie headed back to the kitchen. "And before you tell me that it's been three years since Brent's death I already know!" She rasied her voice. "Now let's eat," she added.

Misty walked up and put her arm around Kellie. "I'm sorry," she said. "I just want you to be happy again." She squeezed Kellie's arm. "And I believe I saw happy on your face when that hunk of a man came over." Misty took the plates to set the table. "And Brent wanted you to move on."

Kellie wiped a tear from her eyes. "I know he did," she cried.

"My brother loved you very much. He would have married you if he had lived." Misty began to tear up too.

Matthew walked up and put his arms around both women. "Just remember he died doing what he loved."

"And that is suppose to help?" Kellie asked. "I hated his job!" She yelled. Then she calmed down. "But your right. He died doing the one thing in his life that made him happy. Being a fireman was his dream."

"Besides marrying you. He was planning on asking you that night," Misty stated.

"I still have the ring and the note," Kellie said as she thought about the love letter she had found the night he was killed in a house fire.

Dear Kellie:

I"m writng this note to let you know how deeply I love you.

My heart ackes for you when we're not together.

But I'm writng this to let you know that if I make it home to you tonight I will be asking for your hand in marriage.

I know this is a weird way to purpose, but my job is dangerous and I want you to know I am going to make that wonderful commitment when or if I see you again. I love you darling, but please if something was to happen please move on in time.

I love you Brent

"It was as if he knew something was going to happen," Kellie cried.

Matthew sat down at the table. "On a lighter note," he said. "Can we eat?" He asked.

Both ladies laughed. They wiped their tears and finished setting the food on the table. Kellie caught a glimpse of Blake as he walked past his kitchen window. Misty caught her staring as well.

"Thanks alot Man, she could have been the one."Blake glared out his kitchen window as he walked over to study the take out menues he had posted on the refrigerator. He had hoped to catch another glimpse of Kellie but he saw nothing. "Man, do you even care about your behavior?" Man let out a small grunt before going to sleep. "Yeah, that's fine you go on to sleep on a full stomach!"Blake said loudly.

Blake picked up the phone to order another pizza, it seemed like the fifth time this week. He glanced at the other choices, non of them sounded appealing. In the end he settled for a cold miller lite beer and a bowl of pretzels. He switched on the t.v. and settled down in his lazy boy chair. He flipped through the channels, not really seeing the pictures. His mind was on one thing and that was Kellie Nelson, and what could have been!

Kellie walked alone the forested trails at the Stanley Park in Vancouver. This was something she did every Saturday. She called this her time away from reality. She always packed a huge sack lunch and plenty of lemonade for her nice long walk along the trials. She always ended her walk along the 6.5-mile sea-wall pathway before she rested and had her along time picnic. Of course Misty thought she needed a male companion to take along with her. Kellie hated to admit it to herself, but she was beginning to feel like she needed more too, but she kept the thought pushed to the side.

Blake took a seat on one of the park benches watching the joggers, cyclists and the pedestrians as they went about their activity of the day. "We need to be doing some form of exercise," he told Man. Man jumped up and started barking. "Calm down boy, I was just picking."Blake looked up to see what all the fuss was about. His heart went into his throat as Kellie walked up. "Sit down, and don't you dare embarass me," He ordered Man. Blake couldn't help but stare. Her curly hair was pulled back into a clip. She wore a peach blouse which complemented her complexion, and the jeans she had on showed off her derriere. All Blake could do was stare in pure bliss.

"Hi there," Kellie said as she bent down to stroke Man. "Remember me?"

Blake's smile grew wider. "How can I forget a pretty face like yours," He blurred out in one breath.

Kellie blushed. "Thank you," she said softly. "Well bye now." She started to walk away, but turned back around to face Blake. "I owe you an apology," She told Blake as she sat down beside him.

She was sitting so close that Blake felt the heat coming from her body. His heart rate speeded up when her hand brushed againist him. "You don't owe me anything,"Blake said. "It was my dog that broke into your house and stoled your chicken."

"Please let me finish. My friend Misty is all the time trying to fix me up with someone." Kellie paused. "My boyfriend Brent was killed in a house fire. He was a fireman." she felt like she was babbling. "I loved him so much, and then just like that it was over. He was gone." Kellie brushed at the tears. "Misty wanted to fix me up with you. I'm just not sure if I'm ready."

Blake's heart sunk. "It's okay," he lied.

"No, it's not. I'm afraid because I believe I am ready and I want to start by asking you to have lunch with me." Kellie held up the sack lunch.

"Oh,"Blake was at lost for words. "I mean I would love too!" He shouted.

Kellie laughed. "I have enough for Man too!"

Man barked and wagged his tail. "I think we should just chain Man to a tree and make him watch after what he did last night,"Blake said laughing. Kellie laughed too.

Kellie had made home made chicken salad sandwiches, potato salad and even home made potato chips! They sat down to eat. Kellie couldn't help but notice Blake's handsome features. The dimples he had when he smiled made her get chill bumps all over.Blake looked up from his sandwich and smiled at Kellie. Kellie's face heated.

"These are really good,"Blake told her. Man barked in agreement. "Your a great cook," he added.

"Thanks." Kellie wiped her mouth with her napkin. I love to cook. I am a caterer , and you are?" She asked nervously, hoping it wasn't dangerous.

"I'm a arcitect, I invested in a small business down here and that's why I moved to Vancouver. It's a beautiful city too!"

"You must join me next Saturday." Kellie felt happy for once it seemed like in a long time.

"What's happening next Saturday?"Blake asked.

"I'm finally going to get my nerve up and walk across the Capilano Suspension Bridge!" She howled with excitement. "I hate heights, but I'm going to do it!"

"How high is this bridge?"Blake asked as he sipped his lemonade.

"It's 230 feet above the Capilan River Canyon," Kellie answered. "So will you join me?"

"It's a date," said Blake. "I mean it sounds fun."

Kellie reached over and took his hand. "You had it right the first time." Kellie stood up and so did Blake. "I better be getting home."

Blake gave her a small peck on the cheek. "Thanks for lunch."

Kellie walked off but once again turned and went back to Blake. "Come to my house for supper," she said in a soft tone.

"Are you sure? I don't want you to feel you have to."Blake held his breath, hoping with all his heart she really wanted this.

"No, it's time to start living again and like I said eariler I want to start with you. " I really enjoy your company."Kellie prayed he would say yes. "Please come to supper tonight?"

Blake felt like jumping up and kicking his heels together. "I would love too,"he answered. "Can I bring something?"

"Wine and yourself. Come over around seven." Kellie turned to leave, then turned back around. "Blake,"

"Just follow your nose," she laughed.

Man barked and Blake chuckled. This time he walked up to her and kissed her softly on the lips. "Oh we will and I"ll see you at seven."
