Slavery Today

Many believe that slavery ended with Abraham Lincoln.

Many are wrong.

Slavery is a modern issue, one that needs to be addressed. It cannot keep going on.

It is estimated that twenty-seven million people are enslaved all around the world.
Eighty percent of these people are women and children.
These people are forced to become camel jockeys, prostitutes, beggars, etc.
Children are sold, made to become prostitutes, and forced into child labor.
Of course, the list is extensive.
They do not and cannot speak out, it means there survival, they are too afraid.
Billions of dollars are made per year, because of the slave trade.

Four types of slavery are most common, chattel slavery, debt bondage, forced labor, and sex slavery.

What can we do about this?
Visit websites, see for yourself what is going on. *
Write to political people, I cannot stress this one enough. The 2008 election for the president is coming up. SEND THEM STUFF, emails, letter, call them. Even if you can’t vote, I am only thirteen, I can’t vote, but my parents can, my family can. If you raise awareness, people will notice. If I send an email, and you send an email, then they may start to think about it. Doing this would take maybe an hour of your time, these people spend there whole lives in slavery.
It’s time we help.
Are you with me?
Tell people about this, find information, help, and pray.
Do not say you can’t do anything, there are no excuses.
I’m too young…
I’m too old…
No one will listen…
If you talk people will listen, the time is now.
You are not too young or too old, together we can do this.
*I got most of this information from www.iabolish.org
It’s a great website so check it out.

Thank you for your time, please do something about this problem.

Much appreciation,

Hannah

Hey Hannah :) You are right, this is a terrible thing that just seems to keep on happening. I read an article once that said that slavery in Africa was growing by the hundreds of thousands every year...pretty sad stuff. You wrote your argument very well and it was very organized and neat. I hope you keep writing about important issues like this :) Take care, Regan

Hello! Again I am here cause I like you so much.. I mean your writings hehehe =). I totally agree with you and I also think that there is slavery in bad paid jobs. Here in my city you can see that, those business people who employ employees that are badly paid. They know their needs, and they know that there isn´t too many jobs, so they give little payment and make them work a lot of hours a day and any day of the week. I think that this we can call "Slavery" with capital letter. Look forward for more of your writings, keep me updated!.
Gabriel.

I absolutely agree! I read a book called Sold, and it was a true story about a girl that was sold into sex slavery! It was so depressing and sad, and I really believe that there should be an end to it. Very well written, thanks for informing me when you had some work posted! =)
