Kiss It All Better
Two months ago, Wesley McPherson was a normal 17 year old boy. He was captain of West High senior hockey team, with a scholarship to Pittsburgh. His family was rich and he was an only child. His golden blonde hair and piercing blue eyes made him irresistible to all the girls at his school. But Wes was happy with his girlfriend of 1 year, Scarlett Lambert. Scarlett had soft brown hair and gray eyes. She was1 foot shorter then Wesley. They honestly were the perfect couple; always happy. Two months ago, Wesley was happy. Wesley had everything, now he had nothing but the stupid jail cell and the memories.
Wesley sat on his rock hard bed, a piece of wood and a pillow. He look around at the four walls of his home; the cell. Nothing had changed in this room, and it never would. He would spend the rest of his life in this hell whole, all for Scarlett. Wesley lay down, remembering the dreaded night. He longed for Scarlett to be in his arms. That was all he could think about. He doesn't remember his life before that night. As the flashbacks started, he covered his head with the flimsy pillow. Everything came flooding back.
It was Scarlett birthday; he had gotten his license just 6 days prior. Wesley had the perfect night planned for her; he couldn't wait to share the night with his beautiful girlfriend. He stood in front of his mirror, checking his appearance. Everything had to be perfect for Scarlett. He fixed his hair then left the house in his brand new BMW. His hands shook nervously as he pulled up to her house.
God, Wesley calm down, he thought to himself, it's just Scarlett.
He walked up to her front porch of her yellow house, where she lived with her parents. With trembling hands, he knocked twice on the door. Mr. Lambert opened the door, with Scarlett right behind him. She was in a black dress with red high heels. Her hair was curled softly and makeup was light.
"Hello sir." Wesley said, shaking the man's hand.
"Wesley." Scarlett father grunted back. Wesley and Mr. Lambert had a decent relationship, Wesley admired the man. No matter what, Scarlett was still his little girl and that always came first.
"Daddy!" Scarlett wined. “Don’t scare Wes."
Scarlett pushed her dad slightly, making him laugh.
"You kids have a good night. Scarlett, is your cell phone fully charged?"
"Yes dad! I'm 17, don't worry about me!" she replied, shaking her head.
"I will always worry. Be home by curfew."
Scarlett nodded and kissed her father's cheek. She started down the porch stairs, expecting Wes to follow her.
"Wesley, take care of her son." Mr. Lambert added, sternly.
"I will sir."
Mr. Lambert nodded, and Wesley ran to catch up with Scarlett.
He grabbed her hand, pulling her close to him once they were out of sight.
“Happy birthday baby!" Wesley pressed his lips to hers.
"This birthday will unforgettable." He whispered into her ear. He had no idea how true that statement would be.
They rushed into the car, put on their seatbelts and drove away.
"So, where are we going?" Scarlett asked, excitement filling her voice.
"It's a surprise!" he replied, winking at his girlfriend. She rolled her eyes and punched his arm. For such a tiny girl, she had a powerful punch.
"I hate surprises, Wes!"
"You'll love this one." He assured her. She smiled at him. She leaned forward and changed the radio station.
"Scar, not your crappy pop music!" He complained.
Her jaw dropped, and she yelled. "Wesley, it's my birthday! I get to do whatever I please!"
"Fine. Just this once."
They rode in silence for the next few moments until Wes broke it.
"What did you get for your birthday so far?"
"My dad got me some makeup, my mom got me the new iPad and Lenny gave me money." Lenny was Scarlett's cousin.
"That's awesome Scar." He replied pulling into the restaurant parking lot.
"Shut up!" Scarlett yelled, looking out her window. "We're going to Les Formage for dinner? This is the most talked about place! The waiting list is like three months."
Wesley opened her door; she jumped out and fixed her dress.
"I made the reservations when you told me about it."
Scarlett's heart melted, her boyfriend was so sweet. He opened the restaurant door and walked past the people waiting, to the hostess.
"I have a reservation for McPherson."
"Right this way, Mr. And Mrs. McPherson." Scarlett and Wesley giggled like little children as they were led to their table.
"As of tonight," Wesley exclaimed, "We're married."
Scarlett's heart fluttered. She loved her boyfriend.
After a nice dinner and delightful conversation, Wesley gave Scarlett her present over desert. He gave her a heart necklace engraved with
W.P + S.L
= forever <3
Scarlett squealed, excitedly. Wesley took the necklace from her, walked behind her and put the delicate silver piece around her neck. He whispered into her ear, "I love you more than anything or anyone."
Scarlett's face heated up, causing her face to go slightly pink. She always blushed when he said things like that.
"I love you too." She replied, placing her lips softly onto his for a passionate kiss.
Wesley pulled away after one minute or so and kissed her on the tip of her nose.
Wesley paid the expensive bill, which was worth it. They exited the restaurant hand in hand.
"How about a walk in Central Park?" He asked, opening the car door for his girlfriend.
"Sure!" She exclaimed.
Wesley drove on that dark night to Central Park. They got out of the car once they had arrived. Scarlett had changed out of her heels, for a more suitable pair of flip flops. Scarlett and Wesley held hands as they walked through the somewhat dark park. There was no one else there. They talked about their future; what their wedding would be like, what kind house they would own, how many children they would have, what they would name them.
"I like 3 kids, good number." Wesley said.
Scarlett nodded in agreement, "Two boys and one little girl."
Wesley's lit up, "Perfect! Now we have to name them."
Scarlett giggled, "I like Brennon."
"That's nice; my baby girl will be named Makenna." He replied, smiling his million dollar smile.
"That's super cu..." Scarlett didn't get to finish her sentence because a bullet had entered through her lower abdominal. Scarlett collapsed to the ground. Scarlett let out a loud moan. Wesley dropped beside his girlfriend. Blood poured out of her onto the sidewalk.
"Scarlett!" He yelled. “Stay with me babe. Someone help. HELP."
He had left his cell phone in the car and there was no one around.
Wesley picked the bleeding love of his life up and into his arms.
"Wesley, kiss it all better. Make the pain go away." Scarlett whispered.
Wesley kissed her face, trying to keep her alive.
"SOMEONE HELP. GOD, PLEASE HELP."
Scarlet continued to whisper, “I’m not ready to go, I’m not ready to die." Tears streamed down her pale face.
Wesley started to sob, " I'm so sorry Scarlett, I’m so sorry.” Wesley felt guilty; there was nothing he could do.
"It's not your fault love, you didn't know."
Her chest starting falling up and down less frequent.
"I love you Scarlett." Wesley whispered, letting his tears fall on to her cheek.
"I love you Wesley."
Her breath stopped short and her hands turned ice cold.
"Everything will be alright." He whispered as he kissed her for the final time on the lips.
Wesley stood up and turned around. The man that had shot Scarlett was crumpled on the ground, the smoking gun a few feet away from him. He noticed the gun and his rage grew inside. This man had killed his girlfriend. He had taken her life.
Wesley made one swift move toward gun, snatching it in his hands. He pointed it at the crumpled man.
"I'll avenge my lover tonight."
No matter what he couldn't bring her back.
With shaking hands, he pulled the trigger. He tried shooting it at the back of the man who tore his world apart but his trembling hands caused him to hit the man’s shoulder.
"Police. Drop the gun!"
Wesley dropped the gun to the ground and turned toward the cops. Ambulances were taken care of the other man.
The cops walked towards him, guns pointed. They pushed him against the back of the car, after they had searched him for more weapons. They handcuffed him and took out his wallet. They pushed him into the back of the car.
"Wesley McPherson, you are under arrest for 2 counts of murder."
"I didn't do it sir!" He protested, but the officer had walked away to collect evidence. Wesley looked down at his suit, which was covered in Scarlett's blood. Wesley was not the type to cry, but his girlfriend had just been murdered and he was getting arrested for it.
He tried to tell the court that he did not kill his girlfriend; the man had. This was all wrong. The court ruled guilty and Wesley was sentenced to 25 to life. The last thing he saw was Scarlett's fathers cold, cold eyes. If looks could kill, Wesley would be dead too. Oh, how he wished he was dead.
Wesley woke up, still behind prison bars. He had the memory on reply, unable to make it stop. For two continuous months that had been the only thing running through the boys mind.
"Stay with me, stay with me until I fall asleep, stay with Me." he whimpered, uncontrollably as he did everything he closed his eyes.
"Wesley." A gruff voice said. “You have a visitor, come with me."
The prison guard unlocked his cell and led him to a room where he was told to wait.
Moments later, Scarlett's father and His own father entered. The sat across from Wesley.
Wesley went wide eyed at the men.
Mr. Lambert is here to kill me, Wesley thought to himself.
Surprising Wesley, Mr. Lambert said “I know you didn't kill her. God, you were too in love."
Wesley shook his head, " I did not kill her, but I didn't save her either. I tried, but failed."
Mr. McPherson piped up, “The man that shot Scarlett is in a mental hospital. He has a serious mental disorder. Somehow he got a hold of a gun and shot the first person he saw. Wes, this is not your fault."
"Wesley, this is certainly not your fault. At first I thought it was, I mean my daughter was dead. I reviewed my facts and realized I was wrong." Mr. Lambert said with kind eyes.
Wesley yelled, “Why is she dead and I am alive? Why did that man choose her, not me?"
"We don't have an answer that."
"Wesley, no one blames you but yourself. Wesley, I forgive you. Scarlett would want you to stop blaming yourself." Mr. Lambert explained.
Wesley and the men stood up. Wesley collapsed into Mr. Lamberts arms. All men had tears running down their faces.
"I miss her so much." Wesley sobbed.
"I know kid, me too."
Wesley's father stepped in, “We’re going to get you out of here. I promise."
The guard came to collect Wesley; Mr. Lambert yelled three words that meant the most to him.
"She forgives you."
Wes spent one more week in the jail cell. Scarlett's father and his own represented their case to the court. Wesley was now sentenced to 2 years for attempted murder for the man. Wes' father had bailed him out for $20,000.
Wesley went home to his large house where his memory haunted him in every corner. His mother tried to keep him occupied but the memory was still present. It was honestly much worse. Scarlett had been plastered all over his room; pictures, notes, her fuzzy socks. Her jacket was still hung at the front door.
One week later, Wesley took his own life. He did not want at live life without Scarlett by his side. He could not bare life without his lover. Wes could not bring Scarlett back so he met her in Heaven. He made a promise of forever; Wesley McPherson kept his promise.
