I am a girl.

Not the brightest, not the smartest, not the prettiest

Just a girl.

I really do try but no one can tell

I just walk by keeping the smile plastered on my face.

I have no friends, but that’s really not my fault.

No one can look past the fact that I’m not normal

I am not like them, the 'populars'.

Doesn’t anyone notice I hate cheerleading and I’d rather be reading?

I can’t be myself because I’d end up alone.

Alone means by yourself with no one to hold.

And no one deserves that.

I wish a boy would look in to my eyes and realize I’m not alright.

We could read together and sing at the top of our lungs to classical songs.

But that is just a dream.

Instead I’ll be with the head of the basketball team, cheering on the sidelines, with the smile plastered on my face.

Maybe one day I’ll rip off my mask.
