As I see you now

You look so happy

The smile that graces your face

Hardens my heart.

You were never like that

When I was around

Your face had set in a frown

No matter how hard I tried.

I smiled to the world

But they all knew

Your hatred poisoned the air

And my mind.

I shall always wonder

Until the end of my life

What made me so different?

What made me so unlovable?

As I watch you now, with your new family

I am certain that it was my fault

I am the one who made it hard

For you to love or care.

So I will walk away

I will fade into the background

And you can be happy

That's all I ever wanted, Dad.
