its almost christmas it's almost here
parents are out shopping
and their kids are near
its school one day, like any other
one minute you're happy and laughing
the next you’re looking around
then you hear someone yelling
but can’t make out what they are saying

you're locked in a classroom and against the wall
confusion in eyes and the beating of hearts
until you hear the threatening call
you don’t believe it
then for some proof
some crying and screaming

20 of them children, younger than 7
6 of them teachers sacrificing their lives
I know for a fact that they all went to heaven

the next thing you hear makes you jump
its not the gunman, you relax a little
he beckons you to get out
you follow in a heartbeat

finally outside, its felt like ages
reunited with loved ones, finally, at last
but 20 aren’t
leaving empty handed with no one to grasp
heads bowed down eyes streaming like a river

they ask themselves why
and will yell in frustration
they ask again and yell,
“is this punishment... they were only 7”

in the end, its a tragic day, so may I please ask you to bow down and pray
not for the kids but also the parents
and anyone else who has suffered a loss
for I grieve and so shall they

we hope that this won’t happen another day
