FLASH FICTION CONTEST
“Okay, I’m listening,” Mia barked, her arms folded, green eyes glaring.
Todd steeled himself. “Look, I can explain. Alex is a colleague, we were working together on a project to a deadline. You’re just jumping to conclusions.”
“So I take it she stays at the same hotel when you’re away on business? How convenient.”
“Mia stop.” His eyes dart round the bustling cafeteria. “This is neither the time nor the place.”
Mia leans over and reaches for his hand, her eyes brimming with tears. “You’ve changed Todd, and don’t tell me I’m imagining it. Look into my eyes damn it!”
He snatched his hand away, recoiling at her touch, his eyes burning into the formica surface of the table.
“Todd, you need to level with me. Our sex life is non-existent, you snap at the kids, and even when you’re home, you’re miles away. Tell me, is our marriage over?
Todd lifted his eyes to face those green pools of scrutiny. “Yes Mia, I’m afraid it is.”
“So you’re leaving me for Alex?”
“Mia, I’m so sorry, but there’s something you need to know. I’m not leaving you for another woman, Alex is a man and we are in love.

Tue, October 24th, 2017 7:23pmThis had really great descriptive imagery for a small fiction piece. The emotion was also very well portrayed with the ending being a good twist. Nicely done!
