My poem I wrote at school about World War one... my first attempt at poetry.. enjoy!

These men, these honourable men,
Went to war with naïve grins on their faces,
They returned to their home, bloody and cold,
Not quite free from the horrid places.

These places were muddy and cold,
Rat-infested, devoid of joy,
With the whooping shells, and terrible smells,
The memories time couldn’t destroy.

Even when the war is done,
And those lucky enough to survive,
Returned to lovers, mothers and brothers,
Was it enough, that they were alive?

With the memories of the time,
The sound of bombs and bitter screams,
These men, brave honourable men,
With the haunting sounds invading dreams.
