What Am I Made Of?
by Susan H Fouts
If I cringe at mold and mildew,
Kim and Aggie might get mad.
Their fortitude amazes me
Arming themselves with battle plan.
I find I'm hiding from the task
Of scrubbing, bleach and bottled wax.
I stare at task in disgust.
The enemy is hard to kill.
Where is my strength, my purpose still?
Helpless am I as an empty till,
No sound of change or dollar bills.
Grace, grace, I speak to thee
Oh, to be mold and mildew free!
Please Kim, please Aggie, don't yell at me
And call me dirty beggar.
I don't care, I'll rise and stand
And curse the task with battle plan.
I'll scrub the tiles, the tub, the sills.
I'll kill that scum that disgusts me so.
And make the "queens of clean" so proud
That I have risen from my shroud
Of weakened death and strength so small
To arise and to stand tall.
