The detective saw his opportunity. He grabbed the waitress’s arm and said, "I know you did it."

The look in her eyes was enough for him to know for sure. Any doubt or uncertainty that he had felt before was gone. He knew.

"You killed him. You killed him because he left. You loved him but he didn't love you. All he ever did was lie to you, so you lied to him. You told him you wanted to move on and as he fell under your spell again, you killed him."

She just looked at him, all of the panic gone from her eyes.

"I didn't kill him, detective. He killed me. Just in a different way. He killed me metally and physically, I only killed him physically." she cackled, hair falling into her eyes.

"What are you talking about? He didn't kill you physically, you're still alive!"

"Oh, am I?" she asked, reaching into her skirt pocket and pulling out a gun.

She smiled, but the moment I reached for the gun, it went off. I fell to the ground, expecting pain, but there was nothing. I looked up, seeing a woman on the floor with blood pouring out of a bullet-size hole.
