You hurt my heart with your dark words, you drew for me a picture

Of your true self, your true nature, oh, one that is so sinister

I closed my eyes and choked back tears, what harm you did to me!

I breathed in slowly, without fear, and then I turned to see

The harrowing circumstance in which I found myself, so dangerously raw

I felt too close to you to even express the horrors that I saw

Your demeaning ways of provoking me to feel not ill at ease

You took me for some doting weakling, you took me for a tease

My body sensed the intense fear that you tried to force and still

I did not pretend to love, my dear, your fake and apologetic will

I don't feel insecurity, I love my mind and soul

I also love my body's breeze not intertwining yours

You tried to make me feel so cold, you tried to place a fist

On a body that grew so very bold as to sustain and resist

I am made of fine ingredients that combine charm and strength

My intense self and demeanor, also fine and eloquent

I realize that I met someone who does not appreciate all that I see

One who never truly turned around and loved and cared for me

So I realized my need to put my best foot forward and reach out for my truth

I now make way for the rewards that come with not being like you

Thus, I go about my day, and now see things as they are

I walk with self-assurance and pray, for my Lord has never been far

I love my life, I love myself, I love all that is "me"

No matter what you said I knew everything that I could be

I therefore need someone who is as strong, who is not to bare a flaw

In loving and respecting my song of self-respect and love

"To Whom It May Concern" this then is what I now advise:

To You I drink a toast and grin and say "don't compromise"

Alas, I have a ways to go I feel, to find truth in a heart

That won't abide by cruelty and is real, one that is very kind right from the start.
