You took my hand

You showed me a smile

Meaningful words

A strange little spark

Of love or maybe passion

You reached out to me

But I cannot feel it

The warmth or the light

The moment died

And I could see that this spark

It was fading away

I didn’t mean to hurt

I could never mean to make you cry

And yet in your eyes

I can the sadness reflecting

Your feelings

You learnt that a briar rose could have thorns

That a love is often unrequited

And the regret I feel

I wanted you to be happy

But my heart so cold it will burn you if you touch

Stay away

I don’t want to hurt you anymore

Stay away
