Gather up your wings,
hold them high,
hold these feathers like cigarettes,
or better yet!
A simple tip of the hat and moving on,
maybe feed me the sound of your laughter-
it’s color still comes to me as coffee and early morning, always.
Cymbal! Crash.
What’s this?
I receive what I have pleaded for and want nothing of it.
Stray.
While it may be agonizing to remember the curve of your back
(and oh! your crooked teeth!)
and the way your long eyelashes brushed against my neck,
I would rather know them in memory,
then to have never known them at all.
Remain out of reach,
remain laced through struggle,
and I will forgive but never forget.
