Prisoner of War

I sit in a place,
Where there's almost no light,
I get through every day,
Even though they scream and fight,

I am held captive,
I'm a prisoner of war,
The war is at home,
And even though there's a door,

They won't let me leave,
'Cause if people see the scars,
From when Mom and Dad got angry,
They'd never see the stars,

'Cause they'll take them away,
And though they hurt me bad,
I don't want them to leave,
'Cause when alone, I'm sad,

They say not to show them,
That they'll hate me if I do,
So I always listen,
And do what they tell me to,

I cannot go to school,
Because people ask,
'Cause to keep a secret there,
Is a difficult task,

But I met this girl,
The scars she knows about,
'Cause she has them too,
She says she knows a way out,

We call this phone number,
And they come take us away,
And they'll give us a new family,
With which we can stay,

But I'll never see my mom,
Or my dad, ever again,
And though at mind, I'm old,
Really I'm only ten,

I need my parents,
But help is what THEY need,
And I have to talk to someone,
So that I can be freed,

The towers and chains,
Of this prison's walls,
Are now being broken,
And I can see it all,

I don't have to scream,
And I don't have to fight,
I can see the world,
And I can see the light . . .
