The Mirror
My fingertips stroke the cool, smooth glass,
I see in the mirror my long, winding past,
I see friends I made, I see friends I lost,
A promise I made, but have long since forgot,
I try to close my eyes as I try to pull away,
But I'm stuck in the past, and I can't look away,
The screaming, The fighting, The words they all say,
They're burned in my mind and I know they will stay,
Once, all was white, now all I see's black,
And once you see colors, there's no turning back,
All snow must turn grey, Time does this to all,
To hit solid ground, darling, first we must fall,
Each snowflake unique, but their fates the same,
They fall and turn grey, then they all melt away,
And so it was fate, And so it was destined,
There's no rhyme or reason, nor is there a lesson,
I pull back my hand, and the mirror now shatters,
But it's too late now and, to me, nothing matters,
I know the future, 'Cause I know the past,
And I know that "our world," was not built to last...
