its under my 500 word limit so im pretty happy. what do u guys think? >.<

I remember as if it were yesterday, although it happened almost eight years ago.  It seemed like any other morning: wake up, shower, brush teeth—however that morning the phone rang.   I saw my dad’s name on the caller ID so I answered, thinking it was strange for him to call this early in the morning; he had never done this before.  Even at the age of nine I knew something was wrong.  As it turned out my dad called tell about a little accident he had.  As he made his way to take his shower (we do not live together) the handle fell off and my dad, being the handy man he is attempting to fix it, burned his hands in the process since the water was piping hot.

My dad was hospitalized for eighteen days from this accident—that left him with third degree burns.  Once I realized who performed his skin grafts, I was introduced to a different type of doctor.  Not the “normal” medical doctor but a plastic and reconstructive surgeon.  Since then I have wanted to help the disfigured, and people who want to look a little younger.  I have wanted to be a plastic and reconstructive surgeon.

My Cuban side, however, leads me to another very different interest—the Spanish language.  Unfortunately I don’t speak fluent Spanish as of yet and since I believe it’s important to preserve culture, so that one does not lose one’s roots, another of my life goals is to master the Spanish language.

At the College of Arts and Sciences I will be able to explore every nip and tuck of my different interests, with the various opportunities offered.  On one hand, as a future Spanish major, I will be able to learn the language and culture faster through the study abroad program, and on the other; I will be able to participate in undergraduate research projects with a science teacher.  I even have the chance to double major in both science and language, getting the “best of both worlds.”  At the College of Arts and Sciences, my interests can come to life making for a not so far future.
