When I was seventeen I fell in love. Deeply. I was caught in this undertow and I couldn't get out. It was amazing, but it came with a price. We once carved our names into a tree... this is what it might have been thinking if it could think. Because after that fateful night, it wasn't amazing anymore. It was nights spent in front of the TV with a tub of ice cream on my lap. I took it really hard.

Etch your name into my bark will you?
Carve your love into my skin will you?

I curse you for the pain you bestowed upon me.
I curse you for the suffering you cast upon me.

Your love will not last, I promise you that.
The other will break your heart, I promise you that.

I am not a canvas for you to draw your emotions.
I am not a diary for you to spill your heart.

Do you understand me now?
Do you understand why?

I am a tree.
I cannot love.
But I can hate.
