My magical child and the awe inspiring beauty that sometimes we forget until the loss of a loved one.

Here is a story that hopefully will bring a smile to some of your faces. My 2 year old Bella is as mischievous as they come; she has a twinkle in her eye that is magical. Now I understand as her mother that is my bias opinion but meet her and you'll know this is true. Tonight, well today has been trying. Just like many of you, in between moments of happiness and joy that this time of year brings there are also moments that, out of no where my heart aches and I am suddenly overwhelmed by the hole that has been left, the void, the space that will never be filled. So, back to my child... the one that is most like Cole... She had spent over an hour in her room today. I would stop by the door and listen to her playing, making sure no destruction was being dealt. She was happy, singing, talking, laughing... content. She came out after a while and says to me "Mommy, come see!" Proud as could be, tugging me by the arm to her room. When I walked in it was, well, just a moment as a mother that you make a choice to either freak out or laugh. And I laughed. Her walls were covered in what could only be described as "2 year old graffiti". Any space there was to color there was, well, COLOR! She filled in all the spaces, left no stone unturned. She was indeed thorough, creative and proud as could be. She asked "mommy are you mad?" and I said "well Bella... no, but we need to clean this up". And she said "no mommy, me and you friend did this... it is for you, it is your present and it is beautiful!!"
Now, for some of you this may be just "hokey", some of you might "believe", some will laugh, maybe cry or maybe just read it and move on to the next thing... I am not so pretentious to think that "my story" is some brilliant work of art, some life altering moment for anyone. But I know, for sure that for those of us that had the distinct privilege of knowing and loving Cole that this will strike somewhere in your heart strings. How? How do I know? Because he lives in all of us. To honor him is to take in these moments where you know, for sure, that his spirit has touched some part of your life and made you smile is all that matters. It is what is important... smiling, laughing, antagonizing, pranking and just believing is what we should all be doing.
May the magic of this Holiday Season touch each and every one of you. May you find some peace and comfort in knowing that Cole's spirit lives on in each and every one of us who take quiet moments to remember an amazing man.
