Remember when we talked at night
Each wondering about the other's plight
Do we join and go away
Wave the flag, enter the fray?

How could we understand
It was fate that led us to a distant land
To surrender our liberty to the cause
Each having our doubts, seeing the flaws

Believing freedom could be given away
Like lollipops in some grand display
Until the light dimmed in your eyes
Eviscerating the truth and leaving the lies
