Hello Darkness

Hello, darkness. How long has it been?
Two, three weeks since I last let you in?
You may stay if you like, but not for long.
My soul still whimpers when I hear your song.

Hello, darkness. You've come back to play?
I probably shouldn't, my parents would say.
When last I played, we did some mean things.
In my ears, the screams echo. The sounds, they still ring.

Hello, darkness. Your back so soon?
I knew you where coming, heard you whistle your tune.
Daddy got angry the last time we met.
Mommy got hurt, they were really upset.

I'm sorry, darkness, but you have to go.
Don't ever come back. I want you to know
That whenever you're here, we have fun, that is true.
But we are friends no more, with you I am through.
Because of you, daddy's sent me away.
At a big white building I am going to stay.
There's no darkness there, they have lights all the time.
Goodbye, darkness. The pleasure's all mine.
