A Conformist Rebel

I am a conformist rebel

I can partake in polite conversation

I can swear where nobody dares

Never a word will I utter

Against a person with a stammering stutter

Always quiet and in the background

But yes, I can generate a negative sound

Saying, Yes, No, Thank You and Please

Little do they know it is only to appease

No criminal convictions against my name

But some debt and a little speeding all the same

Drinking just a little on a regular basis

But from time to time getting totally wasted

Being upstanding and with good morals too

Temptation has beaten me once or twice

To be honest and truthful, I have been raised

But the corporate world expects me to lie

Flying under a flag of convenience

It can be confusing to to navigate this maze

Sometimes heroic but more often a coward

Pleading intelligence from within my ignorance

Pleading ignorance from within my intelligence

Smiling, laughing, frowning and crying

Constantly adjusting to what is expected

I am a rebel trying to conform

I am a conformist rebel, confused I am
