Balance At Speed

Some see it as man and beast in perfect harmony

Others refer to it as the sport of kings

A frail body sits atop the heaving powerful beast

Performing magic to retain balance and control

First they parade in all their finery

Then they are unleashed, six legs creating their own poetry

Silks of bright colours bobbing up and down

Ground being covered and ravaged in equal measure

Blood, sweat and tears galvanize them with the crowd

Concentration unmoved by the screaming masses

Power seeps from the thundering charge

The fragile overlords planning their strategies in motion

Waiting, steering and unleashing the final burst

Pounding of bodies and hearts, the beating of flesh

Straining, urging with every possible sinew

In the pursuit to be first across the imaginary line
