Every Step A Winner

It wasn't my first and wouldn't be my last

The weather was overcast but ok

There were a few climbs but nothing drastic

I felt like a sardine at the start

But things soon thinned out

In the early stages, adrenalin took me along

Perhaps in hindsight that wasn't such a good thing

By halfway, the legs were already heavy

Staring the last lap, I felt sick and my body was screaming

On the last climb I thought my lungs would explode

Oh the joy and relief of seeing the finishing line

3 hours, 49 minutes and 28 seconds

Finished 643rd out of almost 800 runners

But in my mind, I was sure of what I was

Every Step A Winner!
