"This is not a disposable World”
--Carl Sagan, Cosmos

At times like these I shake my head
and think about the world ahead.
Crude oil spills beneath the sea,
the bottlenose and blue fin flee.
Salt water turns a tainted brown,
pollution from a mile down.
The earth is current with the moon
but bleeds from yet another wound.
Man’s stewardship of this one home
is shaking like the fall of Rome
with life in habitats put out,
a slick of death now waves about.
And with black tears upon the beach
opining in disrupted speech,
environmental voice decrees
from land and sky and unclean seas,
if earth cannot survive the woe
there is no other place to go.
At times like these I shake my head
and think about what Carl said.
