The Desperados continue through the canyon.

Suddenly a few rodents fall from the cliff land on the Kid’s and John’s horses and then scurry away.

JOHN:

Damn vermin.

THE KID:

(looking up)

I got this weird feeling.

A few more fall and begin eating everything organic in sight.

NAT:

What the hell is going on?

Some of the rodents that fall start to attack the horses. And one of them is so bold that it leaps at the Kid’s open wound. The vicious rodent grows larger as it leaps through the air. All of a sudden the rodent explodes in mid-air.

The Kid turns to see the Lady holding a smoking battle-axe pistol.

THE LADY:

Watch your back.

Suddenly small rodents begin to protrude from every crevice in the canyon and existing rock face. The Lady’s face morphs with anticipation.

THE LADY:

Something’s comin’.

SHOT -  THE CAMERA PULLS IN CLOSE ON THE LADY AS SHE TURNS WITH HER EYES WIDE.

The Lady turns to see millions of rodents are running down the side of the canyon.

THE LADY:

(yelling)

PRAIRIE DOGS!

Darius turns.

DARIUS:

(yelling)

RUN!!!!!

The Desperados dash franticly toward the ridge hoping to out run the swarm of Lemming-like rodents.

The Desperados go through various over passes and around rock formations in futile attempts to lose the prairie dogs. But the prairie dogs have multiplied so much in such a short amount of time.

There are so many prairie dogs that they move like a current or a tidal wave of water blanketing and devouring everything in their way.

SHOT - WIDE ANGLE SHOT OF THE PRAIRIE DOGS FLOWING THROUGH THE CANYON LIKE THE GRAND RAPIDS.

THE LADY:

(riding hard)

Head for the narrow pass.

CUT TO:

EXT. CANYON - SAME

SHOT - BACK SHOT OF DARIUS RIDING AT THE HEAD OF THE TEAM

Darius looks back at the oncoming menace.

DARIUS:

I’ll take care of this Caitlin. The

rest of you get to high ground.

The Lady looks back as Darius teleports in a cloud of black mist.

THE LADY:

Nat you follow me.

(to the Kid and John)

You two take the northern face

 we’ll take the south.

John and the Kid nod and ride off to the other end of the canyon. While the Lady and Nat dip around the corner of the next pass.

NAT:

What are we doing?

THE LADY:

I’ll tell you soon enough. Hopefully

Darius’ll be able to buy us some time.

The Lady and Nat get in position. The Lady draws her rifle, as does Nat. And at the other side of the canyon The Kid and John have done the same.

CUT BACK TO:

Darius and his horse suddenly reappear in a flash of black mist as he shadow steps in broad daylight.  He ends up right behind his comrades riding in the opposite direction toward the tidal wave of prairie dogs.

Darius jumps off his stead draws his rifle and starts shooting at the cliffs right above the sea of prairie dogs.

Debris from the cliff starts to fall in front of the sea of prairie dogs creating a small barrier of boulders. Darius has moved into the small pass and the other Desperados take aim and prepare to shoot.

SHOT - BIRDS-EYE VIEW SHOT OF DARIUS

DARIUS:

(to all)

That won’t hold’em for long.

The Desperados can already hear the sound of the prairie dogs gnawing away at the small barrier. Little by little some of the prairie dogs break through and the Desperados begin to fire picking them off one by one.

THE LADY:

(to Nat)

Start shooting look for any abnormally big ones.

We don’t any these things to transform like locusts.

Nat nods and starts shooting.

CUT TO:

EXT. CANYON - SAME

Darius is screaming instructions to the Kid.

DARIUS:

(to Kid)

When they break through I need

you  to take out the overpass.

THE KID:

(hesitantly)

But..

DARIUS:

Don’t worry about me just do it.

Soon after the small barrier explodes as the prairie dogs come pouring through like quicksilver. Darius runs for cover and while firing behind him at the oncoming wave of prairie dogs.

The other Black Desperados unleash a furious volley of fire on the outcropping of the over pass.  The over pass soon collapses creating an avalanche that crushes thousands of prairie dogs.

As the dust settles and the smoke waifs from the guns of the Desperados the gnawing of the prairie dogs subsides. The other Desperados come down from the surrounding cliffs and join Darius.

JOHN:

That was somethin’.

JONH:(CON’T)

How’d you know...

DARIUS:

Old gunslinger trick Prairie dogs are like locusts

get a few of them together and they eat

everything in sight as long as they’re moving.

DARIUS:

(smiling)

The trick is to get them to stop moving long

enough and seprate’em so they go docile.

Nat and the Kid look at Darius a bit puzzled.

THE LADY:

Let’s just be happy that they didn’t

get a chance to swarm, mutate....

The Lady looks at the earth beneath her nervously.

THE LADY:

(scared)

And cluster….oh God.

Just the earth bellows with a mighty rumble and the ground begins to shake as something within the boulders from the landslide begins to growl. The entire crew of warriors all turn in horror as the very top of the landslide explodes and an enormous singular creature emerges from the debris.

The Desperados all dive for cover as the beast begins throwing the debris everywhere. The creature is going on a rampage and as it breaks completely through the landslide you can see thousands of prairie dogs running into it. As they do the creature grows larger.

THE KID:

Shit not again.

The Desperadoes start firing at the creature.

JOHN:

(to the Lady)

What happened to the old

gunslinger’s trick?

THE LADY:

It was Darius’ trick!

The scene is filled with smoke and gunfire as the Desperados line up side by side begin shooting at the creature with everything they have.  The Kid pulls out his double mini Gatlings and the Lady draws her battle-axe pistols, Darius and the two other men all have rifles.

As they shoot at the creature and the shots penetrate the creature’s hide instead of bleeding blood the dead bodies of smaller prairie dogs fall from the wounds of the larger collective body.

JOHN:

We have to find the brain clusters.

The creature picks up a large boulder and hurls it at the gunmen.  The Desperados all jump for cover.

[Note: The brain clusters are the places on the collective form where the mutated prairie dogs gather to unite the other rodents and regulate movement. When prairie dogs cluster three or four main clusters of mutated Prairie Dogs unify the lesser rodents creating a hive mentality. If there is a fourth cluster it usually means big trouble.]

The Desperados keep advancing giving the Lady time to concentrate on finding the creature’s weak points.

THE LADY:

I’m on it.

The Lady uses her sight to find the weaknesses on the creature. We see through the Lady’s eyes as she looks at the creature. The Lady is seeing the creature in a kind of PHANTOM SPACE where only she sees the weak points in flashes of bright red and white. And the rest of the collective body of the creature is in dull muted tones of bluish-black.

THE LADY:

I got it.  We have to get it to stand upright.

There are several points we have to hit.

THE LADY:

One on the head and two in front.

DARIUS:

Good then this shouldn’t be to hard.

The Lady turns to Darius.

THE LADY:

And one in the back.

DARIUS:

(looking up at the beast)

Shit!

DARIUS: (con't)

I’ll draw it out while the rest

of you hit the clusters.

Darius darts out in to the open area and begins firing at the Prairie Dog. The creature charges Darius and swipes a mighty claw at him.

Darius disappears in a flash of black mist only to reappear on a nearby overpass. The creature rises fully on its two hind legs and starts attacking Darius while he is on the ledge.

CUT TO:

EXT. CANYON - SAME

Using he power of sight the Lady points to the mutated clusters of slightly larger prairie dogs that are controlling the entire mass.

The Prairie Dog starts rampaging through the canyon. The warriors take aim at the giant beast and fire at the first cluster located on the torso of the monster.

The Prairie Dog responds with a loud outburst of bestial rage and starts tearing into any and everything in sight.

JOHN:

(smiling)

Well that sure woke him up.

CUT BACK TO:

EXT. CANYON - SAME

Darius continues firing at the beast with his double shot staff rifle. As the larger mass is hit in the first cluster the smaller mutated prairie dogs that were controlling the larger mass rain down near Darius then wither and die.

The remaining larger prairie dog mass goes into a frenzy it raises one large claw toward the Lady and Nat who have moved further along the ridge in an attempt to avoid the creature’s path of destruction.

Darius starts shadow stepping up the sides of the canyon from one side to another to get closer to the creature.

JOHN:

(yelling)

Darius, look out!!!

As Darius materializes to a nearby cliff face he receives John’s warning too late. As he raises his rifle to fire he’s suddenly knocked across the canyon by beast and is caught below on the canyon floor.

JOHN:

(as the creature charges)

Oh shit!! Darius!!

The Prairie Dog rises on its hind legs and then tramples Darius into the ground leaving the Shadow Walker embedded in the ground.

SHOT - SPIRALLING BIRD’S EYE VIEW SHOT OF DARIUS LAYING HURT ON THE GROUND.

Darius spits up black misty blood as the Prairie Dog leaves him lying in the dirt in the wide-open space. The creature has managed to destroy most of Darius’ protective garments leaving him exposed to the sun. Darius’ wounds begin to bubble in the sunlight causing the warrior tremendous pain. Darius yells in pain but his cries do not resemble any sound familiar to the human ear.

NAT:

DARIUS!!!!

THE LADY:

(to Nat)

GET DOWN!!!!

The Lady and Nat jump out of the way just as the Prairie Dog destroys the ridge they just stood on with one swipe of its claw.

CUT TO:

Meanwhile on the other end of Canyon the Kid and John have run back down the canyon to Darius’ aid.

THE KID:

Hurry up we have to get

 him out of the sunlight.

As The Kid and John help Darius to his feet. Darius mutters incoherently as the two men drag their fallen comrade into a nearby outcropping of rocks and place him in the shadows.

Darius looks up at the two men dazed and confused.

THE KID:

I told you, you weren’t invincible.

DARIUS:

(weakly)

You sure picked a bad time to be right.

The Shadow walker smiles weakly at the Kid.

THE KID:

Stay here and rest we’ll

handle this thing.

The Kid walks off. John stares at Darius noticing two large gashes across The Shadow Walker’s torso.

JOHN:

(yelling)

Kid!

Suddenly Darius grabs Johns arm and holds it like a vice shaking his head.

DARIUS:

I’ll be fine! Just make sure the Kid

doesn’t get hurt.

John stares at Darius for a moment more nods and then runs to rejoin the others in battle.

CUT BACK TO:

EXT. CANYON– SAME

The Lady and Nat continue to battle the Prairie Dog. John and The Kid join them.

THE LADY:

(to the two men)

Where’s Darius?

JOHN:

He’s hurt.

(pensive)

But he should be fine.

THE KID:

How many more clusters?

THE LADY:

Two I think. One on it’s back.

(beat)

And... Damn it.

NAT:

What?

JOHN:

Where’s the other cluster.

THE LADY:

In its throat.

The Desperados keep firing at the beast trying to regain high ground as the creature continues to tear through at them.

THE KID:

It’s never easy is it?

THE LADY:

I got an idea. You guys keep

drawing its fire.

THE LADY:

(smiling)

I’ll be right back.

The Lady runs over to a rock face that is almost completely vertical.  She takes her battle-axe pistols clicks a lever on the side of each which cause a series of blades to protrude transforming the gun into an axe.

The Lady quickly looks up the rock face and using the pistols in axe form begins climbing the rock face. When she reaches the top she yells to her comrades

THE LADY:

(yelling)

Herd him over this way.

The men begin firing at the Prairie Dog, which has stopped attacking them and is heading for the Lady.

JOHN:

It’s like it knows which one of us to go

after, first Darius now Caitlin.

Nat pulls out at stick of dynamite lights it and places it in a special rifle and shoots it at the Prairie Dog.  The dynamite explodes immediately on contact with the beast. The Prairie Dog, which had begun to rise on its hind legs in an attempt to reach the Lady reels in pain, falls back on all fours and turns to attack John.  The Lady takes the opportunity and jump of the rock face landing squarely on the Prairie Dog’s back.

The Lady begins hacking at the monsters back looking to reach the cluster.  As she continues guts, blood and small prairie dogs go flying.

The Prairie Dog begins bucking trying to throw the Lady off of its back. The Lady reaches the cluster pulls out a few sticks of dynamite with liquid timers.  She throws the sticks of dynamite into the gaping hole in the Prairie Dog’s back.

The Lady is finally thrown from the creature’s back. She lands on the ground and runs for cover as the beast’s back explodes in a torrent of flesh, bone and slimy goo. The monster falls to the ground so hard that the earth shakes.

JOHN:

Did you get him?

THE LADY:

Yeah, I think so.

THE KID:

It’s a good thing you

THE KID: (CON’T)

got to it before I did

 because I was about to....

THE LADY:

(smiling)

Not now Kid. Check on Darius.

THE KID:

Sure let me get my...

The Kid turns around to see an empty space where the Prairie Dog just fell. The other three warriors all have their backs turned to the Kid.

THE KID:

Ah Caitlin?

THE LADY:

What is it now?

THE KID:

I think we still have a problem.

The Lady turns in the direction of the Kid and the fallen monster. But when she turns the monster is no longer there.

THE LADY:

What....

Suddenly the ground begins to shake.  The ground explodes upward earth flying everywhere, as the Prairie Dog breaks through the earth’s surface swallowing the Kid whole. The Kid screams.

The Prairie Dog stands on its hind legs and lets out a monstrous roar.

CUT TO:

The other warriors boldly run toward the beast firing shots from their guns in a futile attempt to save the Kid.

SHOT - WORM’S EYE VIEW SHOT OF DARIUS APPEARING IN MID-AIR AND FALLING INTO THE MONSTERS MOUTH.

Darius momentarily blots out the sun as he appears out of nowhere in a poof of black mist right above the Prairie Dog’s open mouth and starts shooting inside of the monster’s throat with his rifle.

The Prairie Dog swallows Darius also and then everything is silent.  The other Desperados are frozen in fear awe and anticipation.  The creature moans softly and then slowly falls to its side. And moans again like a beached whale.

After a few moments a hand covered in black mist protrudes from the beasts side as more of the smaller dead prairies begin to fall from the larger mass creating a gaping hole in the side of the beast.

The Kid emerges holding Darius.
