“Why Le? Why would you do that? The one thing you knew would break my heart you went and did. Get out. I’m done, just get the fuck out.” She said this in a completely confident voice. She didn’t yell, she didn’t scream. She just spoke in a solemn voice. They were standing in the kitchen, she had turned around to clutch the kitchen sink so hard her knuckles were white.
“Jen please just listen to me. I don’t care about her.” apparently this was the wrong thing to say right then.  Jen spun around hands on her hips, fire in her eyes.
“Right Leon you don’t give a damn about her you just fucked her. Why the hell should I be mad at that right? As long as ya didn’t love her then I should just let it slide, is that it? Cause let me tell you sweetheart, it don’t work like that. I’ve always told you the one thing that would make me leave would be you cheating on me. You’ve cheated on other girls, but I gave you a chance. Because you promised me that you would never cheat on me. I guess I left myself open for it huh? By dealing with your shitty attitude, moodiness, your damn habit to go for a drive and not come back that night? For trusting you completely, letting you into my life, my house, my heart, hell even into my bed. What Leon was I not good enough for you? Did I do something wrong cause I swear it was my name you were moaning when we were in bed.” Tears of anger, disappointment and heartbreak were flowing down her cheeks by the time she was done.
“Please listen to me. It didn’t mean anything, I just fucked up and I regret it. I’m sorry”  Leon had tears in his eyes himself. He fucked up big time and he had never been more sorry than he was right now. He loved her more than anything and with one night of drunken stupidity he ruined it.
“Why Leon? How could you do this?” she was crying and she didn’t even care, he had seen her cry before, seen her in her worst moments.
“I don’t know, I was drunk and angry and I didn’t know what I was doing. When I woke up afterwards and looked over and saw that I was in her bed and not here with you I freaked. Hell, I got physically sick. Then I ran, came home to, where I belong.” He was crying now, he still couldn’t believe he had done this. He brought it all on himself.
“Then you lied to me, and proceeded to lie to me until I found out the truth, and confronted you. Tell me something Le, if I hadn’t have found out would you have ever told me?”
“NO. because I knew how you felt about it and I didn’t wanna ruin wat we had.”
“Leon, you ruined what we had the minute you jumped into her bed.”
“Baby, I’m sorry.”
“Don’t you dare call me that, you lost that right, and I’m sick of hearing you say you’re sorry. Get out” she had walked to the front door and was holding it open.
“What? You can’t kick me out of our house.”
“You’re wrong, its my house, my name is on the lease and I pay the rent. Now get the fuck out of my house. I’ll pack your shit and have it on the front lawn by the end of the day.” He just stood there staring at her for a few seconds then hung his head and walked out.
“We had some good times didn’t we?”
“Yea we did”
“I really do love you Jen.”
“I love you too.” Then he walked out and she shut and locked the door behind him.
Leon walked to his truck and slowly got in, cranked it up and drove off down the street. He came back a few hours later to find all his things in boxes sitting on the front lawn of the house they once shared. Leon drove off that day and never went back to his hometown. There was nothing left for him there.
Jen shut the door behind her from putting all his things on the lawn, fell back against it and slid down to the floor. She sat there crying for hours, just trying to feel better. She heard his truck pull up then leave again with his things in the back of it. She stood up off the floor and started cleaning her house. She never really moved on. She tried though, went on a few dates but they never led anywhere.
Three years later she got a phone call from a hospital a state over. Leon had been in an accident, and she was the person he wanted them to call. The nurse told her she needed to come now, it wasn’t looking too good for him. Jen didn’t hesitate, she got the first flight out and went to his side. Over the past year she had forgiven him and realized she was still in love with him. When she walked inside the hospital she found a nurse and was told where to go. Walking into his room she gasped and tears jumped into her eyes. Leon, her Leon was lying on the bed with tubes coming out of him. she walked over and grabbed his hand.
“What have you done to yourself Le? You have to be ok, wake up.” She was crying again.
His eyes opened and he squeezed her hand. “Hi, I’m sorry I scared you, please don’t cry.”
“You’re awake, let me go get the doctor.”
“No, Jen, stay with me.”
“Ok, I’m not going anywhere.” She sat on the edge of her bed and held his hand. looking into his eyes she finally said it “I love you Leon, Always have and I always will.”
“I Love you too. But you have to promise me something. Promise me that you’ll move on.”
“What are you talking about, I finally have you back I’m not letting you go”
“I don’t think you have a choice huney, trust me if I could choose I’d choose to stay with you. But I’m dying Angel, I can feel it.”
“NO, Leon, No you cant go now.”
“Shh huney, it’s going to be ok. You will move on. Promise me that?”
“I promise. I don’t want to lose you again.”
“I know, give me a kiss and lay down here with me.”
She leaned down and kissed his lips, then snuggled up to his un-bandaged side. “I love you Leon.”
“I love you Jen”
Then they fell asleep. The nurse came in and found them together. When she checked his pulse she found it wasn’t there and he was cold. She gently shook Jen to wake her up. “Sweetie, he’s gone from us now. In a better place where he can’t feel the pain.”
Jen sat up and looked down at him, he looked peaceful. She kissed his forehead and walked out to make arrangements to take him home to be buried with his parents.
The day of the funeral she could hardly get out of bed and get dressed. But she did it, for him. she stood up at his funeral and gave a eulogy that touched everyone and left not a single dry eye in the house. She remembered her promise to him, she started dating again. A few years after Leon died she found a guy that fell in love with her. She liked him, it was somewhat near love so she accepted his proposal. They had a son named Leon.
Jen moved on and lived a long life, but she never forgot her Leon, she loved him until the day she died. They buried her next to him, where she wanted to be. She knew she would love him Always and Forever
