If your familiar with the fourth book of FableHaven, you'll recognize Raxtus.

Raxtus could not help the warm feeling rushing through his scales as Kendra snuggled up beneath his wing. Part of it was her magical energy, but what was the other part? He listened for a while to the wind whistle and howl along the cliffside, trying to fall asleep. When he dozed off he was quickly reawakened by a particualarly large boom of thunder, or flash of lightning. Before long he gave up sleeping. Raxtus wanted to get up and stretch, but he didn't want to leave Kendra. It was like he was drawn to her. A soft sigh  drew Raxtus from his thoughts. 'Raxtus? You awake?' Kendra whispered, barely audible over the howls of the wind and pattering of rain. 'I'm awake' Raxtus replied softly, which was in this case since he is a dragon, about the same as using your 'inside' voice. 'I can't sleep' Kendra said as she crawled out from under his wing. Raxtus sat up, and replied 'Well is there anything I can do? I'm not very familiar with human sleep habits.' Kendra laughed quietly and stated 'No, I guess I'm just.. well I'm worried.' There was a short pause 'That dragon..was he of importance? I mean, you seem glad I ate him but..' Raxtus trailed off, unsure of his actions. He hadn't slayed a dragon before, and it felt as if he were betraying his kin. He guessed tecnichly he was, but still. Kendra paused then said 'He was my friend. I didn't know he was a dragon though. I just asumed he was a dragon brother.' Raxtus was silent. Instead of anwsering Kendra's statement, he focused on the shine that emmited from her. He felt it suited her, much more..radiant than his silver scales. Kendra seemed to sense this and said 'Your scales are pretty. You can see your scales shine, but I can't see my shine.' He gave her a smile, not showing his fangs incase it brought up memories of him eating her friend, and ansered 'Even if you can't see your shine, others can.' Raxtus noticed she had started shivering, and sat up on his haunches. 'Come over here, so you don't freeze' he said gently. She obliged and sat down on the cave floor so she could use his wing as a place to lean on. After about ten or more minutes of silence Raxtus turned his gaze from the rain outside to Kendra. She had dozed off. Raxtus smiled and gently lied her down with his foreclaws and resumed his postion with his wing draped over her body. Raxtus fell asleep, no longer feeling the sense of loneliness and exile he usually felt. He liked the sensation.

More to come..?
