Encaged On a Farm

Large wooden stalls
Encage cows, heads bowed, flies
Cover black and white tails,
Tin milking cans line
White chipping walls, paint falling
To dirt floors – mud puddles
From spilt milk, broken
Fences, rotten pine wood,
Loitering manure smell
Mixing with the scent of
Hay bails – stacked
High to the lofts, broken
Holding snoozing cats, grey
Field mice tip toeing to
Holes in the busted walls
Leading to wire chicken coops, chicks
Eating brown and yellow
Cracked corn – fallen between
Encaged cows.
