"Kids these days"
Words repeated thru generations
Of a span of ages
From life's broad stages
You see different, strange, odd
They see different, unique, & strong
You think their hairstyles absurd
They think their hairstyles worth more than words
You see outfits that are loud & weird
They see outfits that express what they feel
You stare & think "what‘s their problem?"
They stare & think "glad I'm not them"
Look at it this way
Just this once...
They're good kids,
They aren't really "punks"
They search & test
For who they are
They'll live & learn
(Don't you remember?)
This "growing up" stuff's hard
It's a mystery
Who they'll become
You're just a bystander
Of a fascinating conundrum
They aren't conforming to what you expect
But right there, that's something
You have got to respect
Courage to be different
Maybe that's what you should see
Courage to stand for something
That says a lot to me.
