Clue and Guess Who Contest

Stop the presses, there's been a murder!

1) Well, what are you waiting for?

There's been a murder and its up to you, the armature to all but yourself detective to crack the case. You've narrowed it down to at least three suspects and its up to you to use whatever means necessary to find the culprit.

Requirments: ?

  • It must be in first person, and you must be the detective.
  • There must be at least three suspects.
  • Prove yourself as a detective!

2) Teaser

There's been a murder and its up to you to tell the case to the reader, but wait, theres more! You have to keep the reader guessing and make the real culprit of the crime as obscure as possible until the grand reveal.

Requirements:

  • It must be in third person (omniscient is optional)
  • There must be at least three suspects.
  • Try to make your reader think!

3) Criminal Mastermind!

You are the murderer! Its up to you frame someone else and stay all clear from suspicious. You put people against each other and use whatever means to stay out of jail.

Requirements:

  • It must be in first person.
  • There must be at least two people you try to frame.
  • You may or may not get caught in the end.
  • Fool the police and fight the power!

4) Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong!!

The police are on the wrong trail and its up to you as the narrator to let your reader know this, but of course, there is always more. You have to keep your reader guessing by being a bit ambiguous (or any method you see fit) to make your reader doubt who the criminal really is.

Requirements:

  • It must be in third person (omniscient is optional)
  • There must be at least two people who look like they could be the culprit.
  • Don't make it too easy for your reader. They already know the police is on a bad trial. Make them doubt themselves!

Pick one of the four options mentioned before and begin with your own sort of 'Clue'!

Overall Requirements:

  • Be creative! Remember, this is fiction, so that does not mean that your mystery has to be bound to the laws of the natural world (which does not mean make it unbelievably ridiculous, just have fun with it). You can mix genres and no particular genre or lack of thereof will be better than the other. It will be judged on how well it is written and how much the reader is kept guessing.
  • As far as word length goes there really isn't one. Just us as many words as needed to tell your mystery and keep it interesting, which is to say that short stories and novels are acceptable. Although, if a novel is to be written then write away, but I will only read the first three chapters. Short or long doesn't matter, its quality not quantity.
  • As for the rating, I will accept foul language as long as it adds to the story, which is to say that it is part of the character or you feel as a writer that it is necessary to be there. (I personally don't mind foul language as I use it myself from time to time, but like all words in story, it should add to it. There is such a thing as overboard if it seems to be there just for the sake of cussing.)And for you friskier romance writers, please keep it vague. All I have to say is don't be explicit. If you feel something is needed to add to the story, then by all means go with it, but please, let it have a reason for being there. Also, as horror wise goes, I don't really mind gore as long as it adds to the story

?

Participants

Only the first 15 can participate.

Please, enter no later than April 30th.

Please post your entry in the comments.

Judging

Judging will be done by me, The Arist Cellar.

If participants wish to 'like' each other's stories then they may, and that will weight into the judging, not heavily mind you though.

If you are interested in judging then I will accept as a maximum of 3 judges. Deadline for volunteering for judging will be no later than April 27th. NO JUDGE IS ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE CONTEST. Also, to ensure that all judging is fair, when you place your vote I will like a private message to be sent to me and the other judges on why you voted for those participants. IF VOTING IS DEEMED UNFAIR BY ME AND THE OTHER JUDGES ON THE PART OF THAT JUDGE (which is unlikely) THEN THOSE VOTES FROM THAT JUDGE WILL BE INVALIDATED.
