HIDDEN RIVER

Somewhere there lies a river

Beneath a crooked rock

A babbling brook, a broken hook

A day that has no clock

There’s a father yelling, “Children! Come inside it’s late.”

The mother hen is fluttering

For the praire dog’s awake

Behind the house there softly cries

A bruised and stoic Buick

Grinning at the rotted fence

The bulls no longer use it

Inside the home the fire glows

With tender loving care

While the ships at sea

Cling gracefully

To the waves

The moon

The air.

And all our hands are weeping

 Our linings  have been singed

Our tolling bells are injured

For no one has the cents

But in these changing tides of time

You may stumble upon a treasure

For there shall lie a golden rock

Beneath

 A  hidden river.
