Placing Flowers on your Grave

By D W Phoenix

Placing flowers on your grave

In the sunshine and the rain

But no amount of rain that falls

Can wash away my pain

I know that my loss

Is somebody else’s gain

But in my heart I know

Their not the ones to blame

You gave up your life

So that others could be safe

And I feel all I can do

Is place flowers on your grave

You gave your life doing what you wanted to do

To me you’ll always be my hero so brave

You put your life on the line so others could be safe

The least I can do is place flowers on your grave

The deepness of the red in the roses

The colour of your blood that you shed

The happy brightness coming through in the yellow

As bright as the sunshine on the day we wed

The richness of the tones in the velvet blues

Says that destiny is not something we can choose

All the different shades of so many greens

Like a thousand memories like a thousand dreams

When I place flowers on your grave

I place part of me there with you

When I place flowers on your grave

It’s not in sadness but the love I have for you

I needed to be with you

Wanted to be by your side

But by the time that I arrived

They told me you had died

I know in your heart

You know how hard I tried

You gave your life for others

You’re my hero so brave

I only have tears

And my flowers for your grave

I feel some how your with me

When I’m standing by your grave
